+BlueDeuce Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 Interesting. It'll take some more research. Hard to know if cachers have deleted their finds. Quote

Humm it is strange, but I did do a spike of Virtual and Locationless in the early beginings in Montreal cause I had run out of caches to do in the area. Luckly this has now changed and the game has grown and now I can walk to caches all the time. Quote
+Boot Group Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 My guess is that maybe they don't have a GPS, but can use Google Earth or other means to zero in on the virtual areas, and then go and figure it out in person. Quote

Maybe he has another sock puppet for traditional and one for webcams and one for... yes I know he went to an NPS park, which has no phyisical caches... However broomfield, CO (his listed home) and cody, WY (a place he apperently passed threw on way to yellowstone) both have trad caches in them. Its like they only picked virts for some reason Quote

+Harry Dolphin Posted October 1, 2006 Posted October 1, 2006 Okay. I did a string of twenty virts on the Mall in DC last year... (Two of them were actually interesting...) And, if we ignore the fact that he backdated two of them to 2004... I guess s/he just likes finding virtual caches? Hey, I know people with hundreds of benchmark finds, with few, if any, cache finds. Everybody needs a hobby. Yeah, it does look a little strange. He's a specialist? Quote

I am proud to say that after finding that particular virtual cache, I then spent the next six and one half hours in the museum itself. I even talked the ever patient Mrs. 9282 into a side trip to the Udvar-Hazy annex out at Dulles airport, well worth the trip BTW. Quote

Breaks all the suspense we as a community can invent and create, it would resolve all our paranoia and stuff. That would be lame. ... I say he's an alien and doesn't get it! Quote

The one I liked best was: Last stop for a weary traveler. Best virtual I've ever seen!!!! Quote

+kayak-cowboy Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 IMO. Just doing a quick search from one of the Virtuals found, it is very much possible to do 20 in a short period of time. There is 29 Virtuals within a 45 mile radious of Yellowstone NP. It also appears that the account is new within the past few weeks. So it may very well be a new geocacher that just happened to start while on vacation. Quote
+Kacky Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 Doesn't seem strange to me. Then again THIS is my son. He is planning to branch out into benchmarks, but he tried regular caching and doesn't like it. Quote
+LadeBear68 Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 I'm not sure I understand what the big deal is or why you would bring it to the forums. Some people just like different types of caches. During my trip to GW4, most of my caches were virtuals because it brought me to interesting parts of the city. Quote
+Confucius' Cat Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 looks like this is another "is it wrong to play your own way" thread. If he was "cheating" he would probably log many in varied places. Why limit the "virtual" caching area? If a virt can be "cheated", it can be "cheated" from anywhere in the world. So, if he is not "cheating" (or even if he is), what does it have to do with the price of YOUR beans? I say "whoop". Quote
+El Diablo Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 Maybe he accidently caused his PQ's to only show virtuals? I do have to ask this question though....why does anyone care what caches he/she logs? El Diablo Quote

+mgbmusic Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 Well, for what it's worth, I'd enjoy seeing more Virtual Caches placed - I haven't gone looking myself, but it seems like a fun type of cache to me. Learning something interesting about a place or area, and not having to deal with ammo boxes burried under logs or soggy log books. I've got a couple of virts I plan to go seeking, once I actually have the time to do so... Comming home not covered in burrs is another BIG plus... Virt on man! We salute you! Quote
+briansnat Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 (edited) Looks like this is another "is it wrong to play your own way" thread. It's amazing what people can read into things. I didn't see a single post that was remotely critical of the subject for finding only virtuals. One person found it odd (and it is somewhat) and others came up with perfectly good explanations for it. Edited October 2, 2006 by briansnat Quote

I doubt there is a mystery here. I bet he'd love to tell you about this. Good luck Actually he logged an old virtual of mine. And sent me an email, but instead of the requested info he said he was a noob, appogized for not having paid attention. Being as I try to not be an ogre, I will probably let him slid. I also checked his profile, and noticed they were all virtuals, which just LOOKED REALLY WEIRD TO ME! Quote

During my trip to GW4, most of my caches were virtuals because it brought me to interesting parts of the city. I brought it to the OT forum just to see if anyone else was as paranoid as me about people that log only virtuals, (or maybe only of any time) as me. Since you brought it up, when you got home, did you log any other caches? or Did you stay with just virtuals? Quote
+sbell111 Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 My guess is that this player likes virts the best. I kind of miss virts, myself. While I like micros fine, it seems like they spiked after virts were restricted. Yesterday, my wife mentioned that she might be willing to come geocaching with me again some time. However, she only wants to go after non-micros/non-virts, so I split my PQs to allow us to target the caches that she might enjoy. Quote
+LadeBear68 Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 I started with traditionals and after 3 or 4, I thought I can see all of these at home so I switched to virtuals. Quote

No. If I meant to start a 'hey look at this cheater' thread I would have started in the general and it would have been much different. Link for one I don't think posting links to people while trashing how they play is a good thing to do, its much like personal attacks. The thread was meant as a 'do you see what I see' type thing, I put it in OT since it has IMO little to do with actual caching (like most of OT fora ) Yes the fact the virtuals were all in an 'area' made them even more strange to me... aside from the NPS area they have to have trads near their home, and almost certainly had non-virts along their route. I don't care about the price or tea in china, or if this guys cheating. If he is, he was at least decent enough to lie to me about it, and follow directions about emailing me even if its just to me tell whats up, instead of just logging it and forcing me to delete his find. double whoop Quote

+Juicepig Posted October 2, 2006 Posted October 2, 2006 I first started off with only virtuals, as I didnt have a GPS, and they were easy to find without one. Quote
