Only One Person Setting Caches Around Me

Recommended Posts

I have pondered over if I should post this because it could reignite the micro debate among other things, but I find it rather amusing so I have decided to risk it. Please try and stay on topic and not get personal. No on with the post....

Yesterday I logged a find on the way to work. After logging it I noticed that the 23 nearest unfound caches were placed by the same cacher. After a bit of number crunching I found that 53 of the nearest 60 caches were also be the same cacher. This has happened purely because they are being set faster than I am finding them.

After doing some more number crunching I believe that this may be a record. Although there are four of us (that I can think of) in the locality who cleared the area before these caches were set, and this may have happened elsewhere in the country, so I could be wrong.

So am I wrong? How many consecutive caches by the same setter have you have from your home coordinates?

are they all dwarfs p*** pots

Now Mandy, that's a micro moan if ever I read one. I don't get the changes to hold many caching records, other than the the most trees fallen out of when caching perhaps B), so let's not spoil it.

That wasn't a moan that was a question ... grumble grumble blah blah B)

I think falling out of trees is a great caching record Alistair and your the best at it B)

There seems to be only a handful of of us in the West of London that regularly cache, which seems a small number considering how many millions live in this part of the world.

The only thing I can say is: could the person setting all those caches move near me please.

no can that person move nearer to me please :D

The same problem exists in East London. Of the 450 finds that I have, 115 were set or are maintained by the same cacher (Siloans) and another 36 were set by another cacher (Perthos) but are now maintained by others. I think Siloans has about another 50 or 60 that I have not done yet.

I've just looked at the users profile. 16 placements in the last week and 18 placements in the space of 2 days earlier in the month.

If they continue at that rate it will be one hell of a maintenance trip to keep on top of them all. :D

This should not really come as a surprise to anyone as:

  • 82% of British GeoCachers have never a cache
  • 80% of all caches were set by someone who had set at least 4 Geocaches
  • 52% of all Caches in the British Isles were set by a GeoCacher who owns at least 12 GeoCaches
  • 1.7% of the British Isles GeoCaching community (300 individuals) have set 52% of all the British Isles GeoCaches

:blink:B) enough statistics its time for bed :P:ph34r:

It is making Tyneside a bit of a caching hotspot. There are still places that have room for caches though.

Has anyone completed the metro series yet? If so, did they get sponsorship from Nexus*?

I don't think I could motivate myself to do it, especially in the present heatwave.

I'm all for loads of caches and it's entirely up to the individual to choose not to do a micro. There are some that I can't be bothered with even though they are close to my home.

I'm just glad that there are loads around here and, hopefully it will eventually start to attract "geotourists"

(*For non-north easterners - Nexus are the company that run the metro system)

I (Bernie) visited Newcastle recently on an overnight business trip and made a quick dash round some of the caches about my hotel near the Life Centre for a spare hour or so before dinner.

I went for a brisk walk round and visited 4 (or maybe 5) micros near my location and found most of them completely swamped by passers-by.

I did find one in a secluded spot near the Casino but just gave up on the remainder. I quite enjoy the searching, hunting and finding bit of geo-geeking but hate having to avoid the Great British Public and making a spectacle of myself. However, I did really enjoy my quick wander round the landmarks, guided by the cache locations, up and down the steps around the Castle.

...but in the end, the lure of a couple of cold beers pulled, the frustration and my impatience hunting urban micros during social hours pushed and I turned off my GPS and retired with my solitary "I was there" find.

I'll be heading up North (well, further North) in a few weeks and am looking forward to the cache hot spot that is the Newcastle area. My plan was to get a day ticket on the Metro and travel by that getting as many as I can. I suspect I might have to visit a couple of times. I'll have to see how many of the Metro series I can get. As previously noted, micros in an urban environment sometimes are a bit difficult due to muggles.

If anyone has any advice about what caches I should do in the Newcastle area, I would appreciate a quick email. Don't want to hijack this thread, might start a new thread closer to the time.

Edited to say, I think I'll qualify as a "geotourist".
