+icefall5 Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 (edited) I was just wondering how they keep the OT forum just to members. I know they put all the premium members in their own group, but they can't hide that forum completely from non-premiums. I know this because I have my own forum just like this one. I know they could just deny our access to it, but how do they hide it? Edited April 12, 2006 by icefall5

Its not really that expensive to run this board: Invision Power Board $185.00 for software license seems to be about it. Many 12 year olds are pretty enterprising. . ..

I don't have my own expensive software, it's called InvisionFree. And by the way, it's free, not $185. I had thought you couldn't hide topics like that, but I just went fiddling with the Admin CP and you can. Surprising to me. If any of you were wondering, the board is Hogsheade School. +The Leprechauns Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 Dear God, Thank you for all your many blessings. I forgot one thing from the list. Thank you, in your infinite wisdom, for not empowering my 12-year old daughter with a copy of InvisionFree. I hope you are having a nice day. And once again, I am very sorry about what I said when I couldn't find the cache last Saturday. I really didn't mean that. Your friend, Lep

Goodness, you're an articulate one. In my home town there was a beauty parlor called the Hogshead Beauty Salon. A little more 'truth in advertising' than was good for them, I would have thought. edit: fixed bad quote. BAD quote! Edited April 12, 2006 by AuntieWeasel

We're aware that you're not a moderator here. But I think it might be best NOT to use the moderator icon as your avatar. It may confuse some here into thinking you ARE a moderator here.

bogleman Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 Holy cow what was I doing when I was 13. My my how times have changed and so very articulate, I could barely tie my shoes when I was 13. My hat goes off to you (I guess). The “off-topic” boards as well as TONS of other behind the door magic that goes on have peaked my curiosity but not enough for me to ask here. 13 – man-O-man, you should be out playing football or something other than worrying about software.

+AuntieWeasel Posted April 12, 2006 Posted April 12, 2006 Technology (computers, mainly) is my life. If my computer broke or the hard drive fried or something, I would literally start crying. I could not possibly live without my computer. I don't see how you adults could live without them. Can't! My broadband goes down, I get the shakes in minutes flat. I'm glad to see you know what you've got, though. I often wonder if kids have ANY IDEA how deeply cool is the world they're growing up in. I mean, technology all by itself is cool, but technology as an agent of communication is downright going to alter the species. You mark my words. Man, when I was twelve, I hate to think. Geocaching. Skype. Message boards. MMORPG's. I think my head would have exploded with the sheer coolness of it all. I had tinkertoys (they wouldn't let me have an erector set because I was a girl. I taught them not to give me dolls, though: I dissected them).
ParentsofSAM Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 Oh my...13 my girls will be 13 one day! I am so worried. I can not image one of them running a forum or having their own internet accounts. Are your parents ok with you being on forums with adults and that your profile says that you are only 13?

+icefall5 Posted April 13, 2006 Author Posted April 13, 2006 (edited) Well...... I know what all of you are going to say to this, but it's really not that hard. *Murmurs in the background of "What are you talking about? There's so many buttons.... And.... Yeah!"* This is a picture of the General Configuration screen. Not that hard to understand. (Just so you know, the e-mail address isn't blacked out because you can find it on my profile.) It's a lot to do, but it's not that hard. P.S. I can also type HTML! Edited April 13, 2006 by icefall5
+jiminald Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 To hide a board is easy, if you checked the documentation on the invisionfree site! Check this out : http://support.invisionfree.com/index.php?showtopic=2247 Oh, I could write HTML and the advanced basics of PHP when I was 15/16, I now develop and co-write major sites at 18. There maybe some hope in you yet!
+Jeremy Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 You got this all sorted out, so I'm closing the topic.
