+southcarolinahwypatrol
Hello southcarolinahwypatrol here from Charleston SC, looking for a source on the smaller ammo cans. Need about 5-8? Can anyone help? Thanks Steven Quote Link to comment

+southcarolinahwypatrol
I was hoping along the lines of 10.00 a piece or so! lol thanks Quote Link to comment
+Miragee
There is an independent auto parts store here that stocks them. The small ones are $4.00. Because they are so handy for tools, etc., maybe one of your local parts stores would carry them. Quote Link to comment
+welch
I was hoping along the lines of 10.00 a piece or so! lol thanks If you look a little closer at that cabelas link from ImpalaBob is for SIX ammo cans for $20 (plus s/h). Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
If by small you mean 30cal. cheaperthandirt.com sells them as well for a good price. If you need them to be in perfect shape the only way to do that is at your local army surplus store. Usually online you buy them in small lots. Quote Link to comment
Clan Riffster
Cheaper Than Dirt often has the 30 cal cans. All I see now are 50's. http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ctd/product...8V55EC5WMD51L58 Major Surplus and Survival has 5 packs of the 30's for $15, + $7 for shipping. That's just over $4 a box. Hard to beat! I just ordered some. http://www.majorsurplusnsurvival.com/Merch...ategory_Code=48 Sportsmans Guide sells them for less than $3, but they're out of stock. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=198647 Army Surplus Warehouse has them for $4, + shipping. http://www.armysurpluswarehouse.com/catego...gory=10&start=6 After shipping, the 6 boxes from Cabellas are $32.74. Still a fair deal. Edited December 15, 2005 by Clan Riffster Quote Link to comment
+GPSOkie
Might try the local surplus stores. I picked up a medium ammo can for $6.99 and they had the small ones for $4.99. Quote Link to comment
+Timpat
Here's an online source in upstate New York: SpruceMtnSurplus. 30 cal ammo cans are $4.00 Quote Link to comment
+Thrak
You can always get them here Ammo Cans if you want a LOT of them. Quote Link to comment
+Airmapper
My local army surplus guy will give good deals (Usually $3 for a 30cal, $5 50 cal.) But he has had a hard time getting his hands on any. Apparently the big military supply store chains and .com's are putting him in a pinch. Quote Link to comment

Doing the complicated math I get less than $3.90 per can. I have also been using Lock&Lock containers for caches not way, way out in the woods, and have been very happy with their ability to keep moisture out. Plus, they are less likely to get blown up by the bomb squad. They also take paint fairly easily. Quote Link to comment

Comon, you've probably read all the thread I have and you know very well the bomb squads are a bunch of highyly trained underpaid paranoid trigger happy pyromancies who are just as willing to treat every lost and found teddybear, backpack, or gladware dish as a bomb even if it doesn't look like one. (ok micro rant over) Quote Link to comment
+EScout
Regarding the Europeon ammo cans at Major Surplus, they are slightly less than 3 inches wide, compared to the standard 30 cal can which is 3.5 inches wide. Some of them have canvas handles, some metal. I have picked up a few at the store for $2.95 and they were in very good condition. For another small military can, with the same volume as a decon container, heavy gage aluminum, strong enough to stand on, with a rubber seal in its screw on lid and water proof ( I had one out as a cache in our most rainy winter in 100 years here, and it stayed dry.) For the incredible price of 6 for $10 try the German Army butter dish cans. Major Surplus German Army cans Quote Link to comment
+fishingdude720
As everyone else said, check the nearest Surplus Store. I got a brand new 7.62 caliber for $10.00. It was so new it still had the new smell! Of course I didn't put it out for a cache. Quote Link to comment
