+SD Rowdies Posted April 8, 2008 Posted April 8, 2008 (edited) Here's the lowdown on the location of SCCC #3. When first placed it was harder to reach than now. Even so several Geocachers have scaled the walls to score the find, starting with TT. Later on high winds blew the piece of tin roofing away that harbored the container. We refitted the hide and now easier wall-scaling is needed to make the find; however, it makes sense to use a ladder because it is a safer approach. Safe? Who needs safe? Spiderman up the wall and then balance act across it. Or you could do what ThePolarBear and I did at I Like Magnets 2 and have one person stand on the shoulders of the other person.... Ho-hum, its been done a number of ways. Edited April 8, 2008 by SD Rowdies Quote

Ask Robyn AKA Team Reid about the wall that I climbed earlier in my truck with Fattboy in the cab. But Paul AKA Team Adelos did try and to climb a shorter wall but he had to go sideways to make it up. Go to M2s SDGeocachers.org to see the photos of me stuck and the ones of paul and me. Yes I want to see what John has designed. Edited April 9, 2008 by Team Fatman Quote
+Team Adelos Posted April 9, 2008 Posted April 9, 2008 Looks like a group will be heading out to do the Sandy Creek Cowboy Caches this Saturday. We'll probably stop for breakfast at the Denny's at Los Coches in El Cajon at 7:00, and be heading out east by 8:15. Sorry for the early start, but we need to make it to the going away party for da beave! If anyone has a telescoping ladder, please bring! Robyn La Posta Truck Trail, up Morris Ranch Rd, and back down Fred Canyon Rd? Is Fred Canyon drivable all the way to 8? I remember when we were out there last time and we turned around at the top (past the gate) to come down they way we entered. Did not know if that was a must. Don't think I can make it, but those caches are great! TA Quote

Definitely should do the Stairmaster caches as a warm-up since you'll be in the area. The hike you've got planned is 1200' of up and you'll be wanting to get the legs warmed up before you tackle the climb. Or if you like, do the hike up to Rocky Peak first as a warm up for the Stairmaster caches. The Stairmaster caches are about 1200' of up and you'll be wanting to get the blood flowing before you tackle the climb. Oh, by the way, whatever you do, bring a camera. The views are fantastic. And if you have a long telephoto lens definitely bring that. Last Sunday, the hawks were putting on a grand show for FlagMan and me. Quote

Meet Sunday, April 13 at 0700 at end of Quiet Valley Ln, N32 57.667 W116 59.804 Approx 1.5 miles and 1200 total elevation gain (170 loss) going up (i.e. one-way). Sounds like fun. I'm sure John will want to join you. I've been wanting to do these so I may join you too. What about Gecko Stairmaster? Have you already done those? We did the Stairmaster caches 2 weeks ago. If we can do it maybe they should do it backwards...Saw a big rattlesnake coiled up out in the open...Ask Canadian girl..aka Snake Break Dancer Edited April 12, 2008 by kwvers! Quote
+Triple Crown Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 Hiking Offer to Goat Peak: Turnaround cache: Rocky Peak, GC16WMG in Poway. Meet Sunday, April 13 at 0700 at end of Quiet Valley Ln, N32 57.667 W116 59.804 Approx 1.5 miles and 1200 total elevation gain (170 loss) going up (i.e. one-way). I'm gonna try to make it, unless they make me work... Hee Hee, just kidding, they can't make me work, they can only make me show up! Quote
+Chuy! Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 If Mrs Chuy! joins us, we'll (us two) most likely only do Goat Peak and return another day for the Stairmaster. Then again, if Goat Peak has too much bushwhacking, she may not want to do Stairmaster at all as I hear there is less of a trail that a way. Quote

We never found one but did come down an easier way. For stage#1 follow the creek bed around the hill and come up the back way. Didn't seem as steep...Going up to Stairmaster#2 is a climb. We left a few markers to find our way down. Beautiful flowers were blooming all the way up which made us forget the "burn" sorta. Quote
