+SD Rowdies
Another day another eighty-four emails from Cuyamaca Geocaches. Another aspect of the Cuyamaca Campaign is the comments made about the Dirty-Dozen character associations. It seems that rental of the Dirty Dozen video has spiked since the hides on that trail were released. Mind you, t'was a long and tiring research project to find some aspect of each character within the movie that suggested a reconizable trait of some individual within the group that we are now proud to know as the Dirty Dozen Geocachers. When all else failed I simply relied upon the Cardinal trait embodied in the word "dirty," as we all were after the many encounters with the tragically charred forests of Middle Peak. On Friday, May 4th Baldy & Goldilocks are hitting the Harvey Moore Trail for a few country-song caches and then the Ethos, Pathos, and Logos set as well. Nice and easy outing of eight Geocaches and about four and a half miles round trip. I've been hired as an Elder-Care escort so's they won't get lost of else eaten by Mountain Lions. At their age they are easily distracted and they do tire easily and so I could use some help looking after them. The finds should be easy as I placed them and will be along to point at all of the containers and say "Here it is!" Goldilocks is one of my Photoshop students so lots of photos will be taken along the way I'm sure. Good chance of having your picture taken and post- processed by trained professionals. Once shot there's just no telling what might happen to the images. Might also be a good chance to have your photo taken with the famous flowered-umbrella that Goldilocks always carries. Should arrive at the Sweetwater Parking area of Highway 79 at about quarter to nine that morning; more or less, what with Baldy doing the driving. He's easily distracted by coffee emporiums y' see. Good chance here for a few new faces along the trails of Cuyamaca Rancho State Park. Warm weather forecasted as well. Y'all come, Sweet ol' Harmon SD Rowdies Quote Link to comment

Sure pays to look where you intend to step and to reach. Ceanothus, wildflowers, and snakes ... same time each year. Seems to me that encountering a snake while Geocaching should add to our find-count. Photo Tip: Nice job thinking to use your camera but next time do pick the snake up and carry it to an open spot where you can shoot a three-by-three composition. +SD Rowdies
"A 'supermoon,' bigger and brighter than usual ...." That line taken from BBC online news; honestly, the press corps can't resist this sort of thing can they? A. The moon doesn't expand when "closer" nor does it shrink when a tiny bit further away. B. It's just as close the night before and the night after fullness ... and for day after day for cryin' out loud. In fact this happens twice every twenty- seven and a half days of the year but only now and then at the time of a full-moon. C. Closer in fact by only about 0.07% due to elliptic orbit, that's like 1.6 sixty-fourths of an inch on a yard stick viewed from across the room. Human eyes can't see the difference. While I'm ranting ... years and decades begin on the first day of year-numbers that end with numeral one not with numeral zero. With this sort of press-corps sensationalized thinking just think what else they get wrong intentially just so you will either tune in or buy the newspaper. What's up with their flavor of English? As to the new socks ... they sure as heck are bunched now, clear down to my toes. Janie, Made up for the boat requirement at Loch Lomond and at Loch Ness. Just home last night and whipped ... now have finds to post in Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Scotland; you know, after handling the gazillion emails in my inbox from the CSRP log entries. Finds were GC1G41E, GC24M6G, GL88QAHY, GC242T4, GC1K2N1, and GC1PAMA. Not very easy to search for hides when constrained by a very busy historical, literary, and scenic touring schedule. I suppose I'll post a photo or two if urged to do so. Yikes, Sweet ol' Harmon Edited May 25, 2012 by SD Rowdies Quote Link to comment
+SD Rowdies
This just in ... Yes, it's Brig o' Doon but taken from the east side after stepping through the private gate you see for the two shots that make up this two-frame panorama. Nice, eh? Also have shots of the west side that were more challenging to shoot. Had to crash a very large wedding reception to gain access to fenced property of a pub. Men of the wedding party wore formal kilt-kit and the women wore stunning dresses and very fashionable hats. The bride was beyond beautiful and the groom ever-so dashing. For my part I was attired in my CSRP hiking garb with my faithful old Tilley hiking hat. I sensed that my outfit made a good impression because the wedding party couldn't keep their eyes off of me as I passed through them coming and going for my shots of Brig o' Doon. I noted an odd tendency of the men of the wedding party to lace their fingers and crack their knuckles as I passed by. Must be some sort of Scottish custom. I'll have to ask James about that. Sweet ol' Harmon SD Rowdies Note to Self: Going to really tick me off if The Lost Clan ignores this post. Note Two Self: Imagine! ... no Geocache at this famous brig o'er river Doon. Did you go to Scotland and Ireland? I thought it was only Ireland. Gorgeous country!! I liked your rubber airplane picture and your chick magnet comment. My husband lived in Abingdon, England for a year and he traveled a lot while he was there. He said Edinburgh was amazing! Are you going to post your photos? Quote Link to comment

Nancy, Wow! a voice in the wilderness is so welcomed. Our grand tour included all the notable sights in Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, and Scotland. We started in Dublin and finished in Edinburgh. All told we covered about 1,500 miles and saw and explored everything along the way. Had some fabulous local guides that were steeped in Irish and Scottish history and lore. We also focused on the Irish and Scottish literary giants while visiting related birth places and resting places for the great authors of those countries. Was delighted to locate the birthplace in Dublin of Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu. I was reading his collected works during the Cuyamaca Campaign. His story Camilla was an inspiration for the imaginary-creature hides placed along Black Oak Trail of Middle Peak. Along the way I stuffed my Kindle full of the recommended books that I have not read, right now halfway through Robert L. Stevenson's Kidnapped that pertains to the Jacobian years of Scottish history. You know very well who put that "chick magnet" comment into my head, thank y' very much. Kind of funny that those four students turned toward Sandy as she snapped that shot. Shoot, I'm not even embarrased by my audacity. We were eating in that student hangout outfitted with couches, pillows, and blankets tossed about like a dorm. The attraction was that they served actual beef-burgers with chips rather than mutton or fish. Trouble with posting photos is that Sandy and I shot a combined total of about 1,600 images. Of course many of them are sets that will make up panoramas so that huge castles and cathedrals can be captured from close-up. Spending a lot of time filtering the shots so that Sandy can start on her usual video production that she shares with her siblings. Found time for six Geocache finds; two in Republic of Ireland, one in Northern Ireland, and three in Scotland. Life is good, Sweet ol' Harmon Edinburgh Castle. I'd walk two miles for that shot ... and did. Waterford Crystal? Sorry, the brand-name was purchased by a Polish firm and the crystal is now produced in Poland. They keep the old factory in Republic of Ireland as a showpiece and for the tourism Euros. {Second Law of thermodynamics.) Bonnets of Limerick, Republic of Ireland. Limerick, Republic of Ireland. Oscar Wilde with three admirers and a stalker. Limerick, Republic of Ireland. A Leg Close I do believe. Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland. Republic of Ireland. Inside Ring of Kerry. Highlands of Scotland with heather on the moors. (Read Kidnapped by R. L. Stevenson) Thatched cottage in Highlands of Scotland. War memorial guards at Edinburgh Castle. Cracks me up to think of how many photos taken by people in that crowd had me and my camera as a background for the backside of the guards. Y' got to think ahead to be in position for a good shot.
