+CompuCash
Was out shopping yesterday and saw a hollow rock large enough for an ammo can and then some. Not bad looking either and can always be customized. Could easily be cut down for size also. The greatest thing about this 'geo-rock' is that it was only $29 - Where? Go to your local Home Depot store. They had several sizes - the 'small' one was the one you could put a couple amo cans in. Hey - rub some dirt on it - glue on some leaves or moss - you got a great hidee hole. cc\ Edited May 29, 2005 by CompuCash Quote Link to comment

From Dictionary.com bur·y ( P ) Pronunciation Key (br) tr.v. bur·ied, bur·y·ing, bur·ies To place in the ground: bury a bone. To place (a corpse) in a grave, a tomb, or the sea; inter. To dispose of (a corpse) ritualistically by means other than cremation. To conceal by or as if by covering over with earth; hide: buried her face in the pillow; buried the secret deep within himself. +Olar
It seems tome that this comes veryt close to burying a cache. GeoForse Uh? Sounds like a terrific hide to me. I'm not sure how it could be construed as burying a cache. Might be kind of hard to get the "rock" along the trail to it's spot though without being seen. I guess a night-time cache hide would work. I'm going to check Home Depot tomorrow. Cheers, Olar Quote Link to comment
+IVxIV
Some companies make outdoor speakers hidden inside a "fake rock" so they'll blend in to your backyard patio. Perhaps you can find one of those & gut out the speaker and, voila! Fake Geocaching rock Quote Link to comment

Perhaps you can find one of those & gut out the speaker and, voila! Fake Geocaching rock ya but they are very expensive - check out smarthome.com these are the least expensive I have seen anywhere - do a google on fake rock and see what pops up. this is at least within a reasonable range. Like I said, there were like 3 sizes. They are made for covering your sprinkler valves etc. no photo cuz I could not find them on-line - I hate searching HS's web site - lousy searche engine and you can't drag your link to other pages. examples - http://www.gardeners.com/Shopping/sell.asp...232&SC=XNET8019 http://www.pondsolutions.com/stone-covers.htm interesting side with expensive ones too - http://www.pondsolutions.com/stone-covers.htm cc\ Edited May 30, 2005 by CompuCash Quote Link to comment
+DaveA
If you are going to camoflauge your cache that well please indicate such with the difficulty rating of your cache. Quote Link to comment

But what if he places the "rock" in the middle of a grassy hillside? It could be an easy hide, despite it's camoflauging nature. Quote Link to comment
+Bear_Left
A lot of these camo hiding methods are more to fool the Muggles than cachers. I've put out a few well-hidden caches in public parks and the like with a good hint for cachers and they've generally been well received. Quote Link to comment
+Bear_Left
BTW, the item code on homedepot.com is # 162806 Looks OK, but it would need a bit of work to make it look real enough to fool anyone. Quote Link to comment

+Searching_ut
I've found one cache so far in a fake rock and loved it. As for a location to place it in, areas like the ones in these cache logs from caches I've found comes to mind: Mountainous terrain to mess with GPS reception, and make getting to the area an adventure in itself, and lots and lots or rocks for your fake rock to hide amoungst. I would think it would result in quite the adventure. Quote Link to comment

+Kit Fox
I have a book on how to make realistic rocks out of steel rod, wire mesh, cement and sand. The results are far more realistic than the Home Depot rocks. Quote Link to comment
+S&M For Cache
Recently I made a rock out of fiberglass for one of my caches It is simple and you can get everything at the local hardware store. Just cover a rock in tin foil and use spray glue to put on the strips of fiberglass. then mix the resin and apply. The more layers of fiberglass the stronger it becomes. I used 2 layers. After slip the rock out the botom by cutting the botttom. You can use a bit of bondo to smooth out the finish and then paint it. Edited May 31, 2005 by S&M For Cache Quote Link to comment
