+martinp13
When Skydiver's "New Cache Alert" tool died, there was a big discussion and I remember hearing that a similar capability would be available from geocaching.com in the future. Has that effort died too? I tried to search for it here, but had no luck. Link to comment
+sbell111
What is a 'New Cache Alert'? Couldn't one just run a PQ for caches that were placed within the last week? One could add 'and haven't been found' if they wanted to try for FTF. Link to comment
Jeremy
It's still in the works. The biggest issue was having it trigger the event to send out alerts on another machine. I think most of the bugs have been worked out. However more recent issues like site load times have taken priority (as well as the new Virt/Locationless features). Link to comment
+martinp13
Thanks Jeremy. Appreciate the info. Glad to hear it's still on some burner and not back in the fridge. sbell111: There used to be a "service" that mined the "latest geocaches" list on the main page, and would send you an email if it found one that was within X miles of your location. VERY handy for FTFs. I have a pager watch, and there's nothing like sitting in a meeting and getting notification of a brand spankin' new cache just down the street. Link to comment
+Jeeping Family
Would it be a premium member feature only? Link to comment
Keystone
Would it be a premium member feature only? Yes, according to what's said on the premium member benefits page. Link to comment
+Marky
Cool. Good news on the Virt/Locationless front too. I'd place that higher on the priority list than new cache alerts. Keep on truckin! --Marky Link to comment
