Can We Do This?

Can we start our cache for a limited time as a multi-cache, then convert it to a traditional? Reason being we would like to have a special prize given to the first couple of finders. How would we list this a traditional or multi-cache?

Approvers have a problem with "temporary" caches. You would also have to ask them to change it from a multi to a traditional, because you can't make that change. It might be better to make it a multi and leave it that way for a while (after 3 or so months they are no longer considered temorary), then archive it and create a new cache page for your new cache. Since changing a cache from a multi to a traditonal entirely changes the caching experience it should be a new cache and page, even if the cache is hidden in the same spot.

We had one done just like this when it was listed two years ago in Chicago. The cache was Easter Egg Hunt. When it opened up around Easter, there was a neighboring park that the owner had hidden some green plastic easter eggs in. He put slips of paper for the coordinates for the eggs in the traditional cache in Park A. My boys and I took two slips out, travelled to Park B and found two plastic Easter Eggs. We were allowed to keep the plastic eggs and the contents.

When the slips were gone, the plastic easter eggs were gone. Then the owner changed the description. The cache has always been listed as a traditional, and the original main cache is still in existence.
