+welch Posted May 25, 2005 Posted May 25, 2005 (edited) What web page should we refer finders to, once they find the bug, so that they can get more information? Temp wesite says: These pages are TEMPORARY and will be deactivated, once all the Racers have arrived, and have been grabbed by the Race Official CBR2005, and the entry registration closed. You will then be directed to go NYGO's "Official CannonBAll Run Race pages. The Owners will be emailed the links in one of the emails just prior to the start of the race. It should be the same as in the past 2004 Cannonball Run: Leaderboardl edit to add: In other words, send people there (temp page). then after everything's transfered, send them there (nygo). Hey HappyFrog, Don't pout, I overlooked your tb, when I did the last update. I'll log yours in with a few more this weekend. Sorry for the oversite. As for your question, I believe there are 5 registered non-fee based entries. I'm hoping that there will be more tb's arriving sooner than later. I've emailed and talked to a few players, that say they would sent them out. CBR2005 Quote

+detrickm Posted June 10, 2005 Posted June 10, 2005 Has anyone looked into getting the "Unofficial Cannonball Race 200x" sanctioned by Groundspeak, so that it could be made into an "Official" event? Perhaps that would help to get it made more public, and get the number of entrants back up. Not that I'm not excited about running against so few competitors... still, there's something more fun in competing with the masses. Honestly, I don't read the forums, except for this one topic (which I find a link directly to through google, so I don't bother seeing other topics), so I feel like I'm part of the many people who geocache, but would have NO idea there is a race if it weren't for stumbling across it by dumb luck. What would you mean by 'offical'? I'm not in any way involved with organizing this thing, but I'm not sure what it is you want to see done differntly . one of the requirements for the race is that each racer have a Groundspeak traveler tag . In the past two races the begining, ending, (and this year check point) were all gc.com listed caches, the starting point has been an event cache. Why this year has only like 20 entries (so far ), and the past ones have had 70+, I don't know. I think the organization side of things has appeared to go quite well. I was interested in seeing if, perhaps, Groundspeak might 'sanction' this race. Get it some publicity/advertising on the main geocaching page. Something similar to the Jeep stuff. I'm sure that Jeep threw money at them, that we wouldn't have.. but still, it might be worth a shot. Perhaps more interesting races like this could pop up! Quote
CBR2005 Posted June 10, 2005 Author Posted June 10, 2005 Greetings TB Racers and Fans, I have some bad news, and some slightly better news on two accounts. I had hoped to be emailing the owners, that their tb’s had arrived in the starting area, instead I have other news. This past Wednesday, upon returning home, I found an unexpected package on my porch. Somehow the CannonBall Travelbugs returned back at the original departure zone. It seems the *To: label* got tore off with some damage to the cardboard box. That’s’ the bad news. The better news is that I had used *Welch’s shipping container* to hold all but a few bugs, and even though the rest were in the same cardboard box, they all are ok. The damage was controlled by the shipping container, within the cardboard box. There is no damage to any tb, and none got lost in this episode. I have recounted each and every one (twice), to make sure they are all there. We have now missed the shipping deadline, to get out the tb’s for this weekends (secret release) event. I even tried to see if we could do a *NEXT DAY*. Besides being way to costly for shipping and not getting a 100% guarantee ( it’s not a typical business letter), that they would arrive one time, I have chosen to reschedule the starting date. I’m in contact with my partner, to work on a re-scheduling date, and expedite the starting of the race asap. Please, bear with us, on this unforeseen mishap. Rest assured, the tb’s are still refueled and ready to go. I still need to add a few tb’s to the roster page for a final update. If anyone has any questions, please email me thru my profile or at CannonBallRace2005@yahoo.com Thank You CBR2005 Quote

CBR2005 Posted July 3, 2005 Author Posted July 3, 2005 this is crazy... Crazy is an understatement, to say the least! .. is anything going to happen?? The CannonBall travelbugs have arrived, safe and sound somewhere on the west coast. I am extremely sorry, for the delayed posting and response to your inquiries. Unfortunately, we had to delay the start due to two deaths. This past weekend (June 26-27th ) the CBR Race Officials were handed a double blow. One on the west coast, and one on the east coast, a day a part. With deep regret, I would like to inform you that we lost another great cacher. The west coast and the caching community suffered a great loss, with the passing of * Granny *. On Sunday June 26 2005 Granny ( mother of HappyFrog & grandmother of PizzaBoy) was stricken with a massive stroke and passed away later that same day. For those of you that were involved or followed the 2004 CannonBall Run race, you may recall the name HappyFrog ( & gang ) The gang, on this excursion consisted of HappyFrog, Granny and PizzaBoy, who were solely responsible for moving NWscout1’s ...... DragonFlyer #12[ all the way from California to near the Winner's Circle in 30 days, across 14 states, for an approximate total of 4925 miles. It was a great pleasure to meet three of the gang, and exchange various caching stories over dinner. Granny had such great spunk as the senior member of the gang. To here her tell stories about caching in detail, made you feel you were right there on the hunt. We truly enjoyed all of your company, and will miss you. Then on the following day, my brother-in-law lost his battle with cancer. Unfortunately, this all is happening just two weeks before my wedding day. So yes, this is “Very Crazy” as we are concerned! I apologize for not being able to stay on top of the forum posts and the minor delay. The race will start by the weekend of July 15, 16, 17th. CBR2005 Quote
+Shaggy of Mysteries Inc Posted July 4, 2005 Posted July 4, 2005 I am sorry to here about the deaths of "Granny" and your Brotherinlaw! After all it is just a game and personal matters do come first. If you need help tracking the bugs and giving updates I am volenteering my time. +Sparrowhawk Posted July 10, 2005 Posted July 10, 2005 (edited) Hello racers. Looks like I got me a big bagful of racer travel bugs I gotta put out this week. Since geocaching.com is giving me server error fits today, I'll log them out of the Geomunch event cache in a couple of days. Another cacher at the GeoMunch event took all the avation-themed bugs in the pile and will be placing 'em a few miles north of here. I will be splitting the rest of the pile between 2 large caches I know of on Portland, Oregon's west side sometime in the next few days. Who the bleepin' heck came up with the giganta-normous AMMO CAN with a WINDOW in it for a racer bug??? Sheesh! Im just glad I have a safe place to put that one... I don't expect it to move very far very soon, though. Good luck, all! Edited July 10, 2005 by Sparrowhawk Quote
+HappyFrog (& gang) Posted July 12, 2005 Posted July 12, 2005 First of all..... I must say that I'm sorry that it took so long to get the travel bugs to an event cache. I feel that it is my fault as I wanted to start them off in Oregon this year instead of California. The plan was to put them into an event cache that I attended in June in Bend, OR, but the Post Office messed up and the travel bugs ended up at the Cannonball Race Masters home again So the next event that I was going to attend was on the 27th of June. This sounded really good. I got the travel bugs at my parents home in Portland, OR and I was going to release them on the 27th, but on the 26th of June my mother had a massive stroke, never woke up, and passed away. (This is the way she would have wanted to go). I went to the event cache on the 27th, but didn't feel like dealing with 29 different travel bugs. I was trying to get destressed. So the next two events that I planned on attending were on the 10th and the 15th. One was small and the other was large. I really didn't want the Travel Bugs to get lost in a large crowd, so I picked the one on the 10th. The event owner loves travel bugs and would take good care of them if there weren't enough people at the event. I do know who took your travel bug as I had everyone log them out. They will get dropped off soon. I'm sorry there wasn't a large crowd, but I also didn't want the travel bugs to get lost at the starting point like last year. May the best racer win. I want to thank everyone who send me kind words about my mother. I will miss her and will as her grandchildren will. HappyFrog Quote
