bug and snake Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 Uh-oh! Someone is hiding caches near airports again..... NOT TOO GOOD! Quote
+Scoobie10 Posted November 15, 2004 Author Posted November 15, 2004 Uh-oh! Someone is hiding caches near airports again..... NOT TOO GOOD! Not only that....but using MapSource it shows the cache right in the middle of the runway! Talk about a high Difficulty factor. Quote
+WeightMan Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 Uh-oh! Someone is hiding caches near airports again..... NOT TOO GOOD! Not only that....but using MapSource it shows the cache right in the middle of the runway! Talk about a high Difficulty factor. Lostoutdoors.com shows them on the ramp. The first is next to a building. In fact there is a Cessna parked on the spot. Both appear to be in what would be restricted areas at most airports. That is restricted to owners, pilots and passengers. Quote
bug and snake Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 Gotta hate those 'members only caches' huh!!! Quote
+Markwell Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 I just sent this to my private pilot buddy... Quote
+Scoobie10 Posted November 15, 2004 Author Posted November 15, 2004 QuakeMap showes it on the ramp as well. It must be under the asphalt with Hoffa.....just under that little Cessna. Quote
bug and snake Posted November 15, 2004 Posted November 15, 2004 WOAH! That IS the cache - what a FTF! A fragglin' CESSNA! Quote
jdoe Posted November 16, 2004 Posted November 16, 2004 Uh-oh! Someone is hiding caches near airports again..... NOT TOO GOOD! A cache located on the runway The link above was for a virtual cache. The cache creator decided to put the coordinates in the middle of the runway (check out the map). TPTB were not amused and finally decided to it. Quote
jfitzpat Posted November 19, 2004 Posted November 19, 2004 If we assume that the first coordinates are ddd mm.mm (common on Aviation GPSs), then it seems that the first coordinates put you at the front door of an FBO (Fixed Base Operator) and Carlsbad/Palomar airport: http://www.airnav.com/airport/KCRQ This would be open to the public during normal business hours. There is probably some security now (GA has tightened up - but since it doesn't really represent a terrorist threat, it is still nothing like commercial terminals). If you make the trip, check out the airport diner. It is upstairs in what used to be the control tower, and it overlooks a vintage airplane club. -jjf Quote

This one, I'd go with a pilot. There is generally a fence and a gate code outside GA terminals these days... -jjf Quote
