Well Done Highland Nick

Recommended Posts

Yesterday 30/06/2004 a teacher took 39 children up a mountain in the Cairngorms. They weren't equipped with anything, not even a map and compass. The children were wearing school uniform and trainers. When the mist closed in the teacher used a pupils mobile phone to call 999.

The Cairngorm Mountain Rescue, rescued the group.

Going by what I have just seen on the Scottish News Highland Nick was part of that rescue team. If i'm wrong then it doesn't matter, as he is part of the team and they put their lives on the line at short notice for people that just don't think.

Sadly they never really get the recognition that they deserve, So Nick, please let the Geocaching community give you and your colleagues, the pat on your back that you all deserve.

WELL D  NE!!

A person responsible for those are are not yet experienced enough to be responsible for themselves and she let them and their parents down so bad she was lucky not to have fatalities on her hands. I gather that when the mountain rescue team arrived at the scene 800+ metres above sea level the stricken group were rather abusive towards them. Why am I not surprise to read that they were on an outing from one of our major cities! Let's go for and evening stroll up this hill children!

Keep the good work up Nick! There's plenty more irresponsible customers out there ready to test your services!

I've been considering having SARDA (the search and rescue dog people) as one of my favourite charities. The mountain rescue guys and the dog handlers are all fantastic. I've read some of the reports on their websites, and can't believe how ... um ... incompetent some people are when out in the hills.

High heels on a boulder field somewhere near scafell pike? Good plan.

One of the most terrifying is the scout leader who didn't alert the authorities when his scouts were overdue by 18 hours - being stuck in Piers Gill.

Keep it up guys.

Cheers,

Stu

School teachers!!!!! They are suposed to be intelligent human beings  Sometimes its hard to tell ??? What do you think Nick? :):)

I should know I am married to one :) .

Some people dont know how lucky they are when the mountain rescue and other rescue services put their life on the line for these type of idiots. There will always be accidents and emergencies but to set out into the great outdoors without the knowledge experience or equipment is crazy

Yes, it's all true!

I was there - I had the task of personally escorting 29 of the pupils back to their coach. Unfortunately, the coach driver couldn't get his vehicle to pick them up from the spot as requested!

Anyway, for those who don't know, Donnie is winding me up - he knows I'm a teacher too!!

Just like to say I'm glad there are people around who are willing and able to give their precious free time to do things like this.

Children should be encouraged to use the great outdoors and teachers should not be put off by the bad press that incidents like this gives them.

They should however have proper supervision and equipment.

Well done!

I read about this in the local rag in the area where we both work. The party was from one of the local schools and this isn't the first time this type of thing has happened.

I'll pass on some thoughts to the local schools liason officer, who has a way with words..........

We may moan about the state of the country etc etc, but things can't be all that bad if we still have people who volunteer -for no monetary reward- to risk their well-being to safe guard the lives of others.

Hats off to Highland Nick.
