  1. Went out today and found a cache (first in well over a year i think) got soaked, the youngest daughter had a tantrum and we all got eaten alive by midges!! Why do we do this again!! LOL Picked up a TB though so will be out again soon to move it on. I think the youngest will be staying at home though!
  2. As someone who has not found or hidden a geocache in a long long time. I can say the reasons are many but mostly family and work commitments followed by other hobbies getting in the way. I keep saying that I must go out and go geocaching but never seem to be able to make the time! Saying that though the kids announced on the last day of the school holidays that they remembered going up mountains (most likely small hills) and finding boxes with toys in them. So maybe some day soon if this bloody rain stops we may make a trip out to hide and seek some new caches. There are a few new cachers up around my area but still not a lot even after my caches having been hidden for several years. I have to hang my head in shame and admit that a few of mine are reported as sitting full of water but I just haven't had the time to get out and replace them. However I am sure if I get a few decent new caches hidden that a certain Highland Nick will be forced to come back up the A9 to have a go at finding them.
  3. It is a fantastic spot for a cache as I know the one you mean. I havent been caching for a long time and I know I find it difficult to get out and around the spots where my own caches are for maintenance trips. However I know that kindly geocachers have replaced log books and even boxes in the past for me and for that I am grateful. I have also done the same myself for others when I have been out and about (admitadly a long time ago now). I have found over time that some of my caches have disapeared and things and I have archived them as I found that I was not able to respond quick enough to maintenance requests. Then when I pass I will remove the geotrash. We live in a wondefull area that has hardly any caches and even less geocachers. It would be a shame to lose the caches we have due to lack of maintenance but sometimes someone who once had lots of time to go caching all of a sudden finds themselves with a severe shortage of spare time. I normally read previos logs of caches that I intend to visit and I might well take a spare box or notepad with me before I go for such as the one you found.
  4. Not geocaching at all really but slightly travel bug ish in a strange kind of way. http://www.jmt.org/journey/about.html looks like an interesting project
  5. correct! Although I believe there is a secret tunnel between loch ness and loch Morar so that Nessie can visit his girl when she is in season LOL!!
  6. What is the deepest Loch in Scotland? If any of you were at the 3rd annual scottish bash this question caused some cotroversy and even spawned a cache in its honour.
  7. Your Richard Hannay and these are just the sort of items a gentleman has in the back of his Bentley when hiding out in Galloway while trying to uncover a devilish plot by Kaiser Bill to bring down the House of Saxcoburg-Gotha. The connection is MacNAb
  8. Looking forward to it Havent been caching for a wee while so I will have to dust off my gear
  9. It was google that introduced me. Only one cache in the county when I started and no other cachers. There are a few more caches and a couple more cachers now
  10. I take it it is not a basic etrex you have. The yellow one doesnt allow maps it has no memory for storing them.
  11. that did the trick thanks transfering my track as I type.
  12. I bought one of those usb-serial convertors so I could connect my etrex to my laptop a couple of years ago. Now the problem is I have lost the driver disc and I now have a new pc and it doesnt have a serial connection on it so I want to be able to use my etrex with my new pc. I bought the thing from ebuyer and wonder if anyone out there knows where I could download a new driver from..
  13. SMS is not very good between networks my wife recieved 2 text messages within a short while of each other, The second one to arrive had been sent 24 hours before by the same sender, The girl called my wife to see why she hadnt replyed to the text and my wife had not recieved it yet.
  14. At the moment I have a lead to connect my dell axim X5 to an etrex. I also have a 60cs gps and wonder if I would be able to get a conector and butcher my existing lead so that I can use it with my 60cs. This will save me getting a new lead, I am quite handy with a soldering iron and can do the hands on bit just not sure if/where I could get bits from. Anyone done this? or know what goes where to try it. Cheers Donnie
  15. When I bought my boots in Millets I was very impressed by the salesman. After a discussion as the type of useage i wanted from the boots he recomended a pair of boots and let me try on a pair of socks with the boots to make sure they were a proper fit. I then spent a good while walking and stomping around the shop before deciding to buy them, no pressure just good advice.
