John NW Posted March 20, 2004 Posted March 20, 2004 Hi folks Could someone tell me how you are meant to be able to log GCB873 - Hitchhiker round the world? From it's description it seems to be a travel bug - if not is it a real cache that gets moved on from place to place. If it is the former - shouldn't it be under Travel Bugs? If it is the latter shouldn't it be under normal caches - like "Keep it Moving" or "Cuckoo Cache Too"? Also when will the banning of new locationless caches be lifted?
Harrald Posted March 20, 2004 Posted March 20, 2004 Maybe you could provide a link? The waypoint GCB873 is not in the system and Hitchhiker round the world? turns up nothing like what you have described
IV_Warrior Posted March 20, 2004 Posted March 20, 2004 here you go I actually had trouble getting it to come up, too. I tried to just copy/paste the waypoint. Had to actually type it in to get the page to come up
Renegade Knight Posted March 20, 2004 Posted March 20, 2004 Looks like a TB or a moving Cache. Still it's grandfathered.
Allen_L Posted March 20, 2004 Posted March 20, 2004 I had no trouble using http://www.geocaching.com/seek/ to find it by pasting the waypoint "GCB873" in the "By waypoint:" box. One thing if you copy and paste don't paste a space at the end i.e. use "GCB873" not "GCB873 ". The form isn't smart enough to trim spaces off and it will not find it if there is an extra space at the end.
Mopar Posted March 20, 2004 Posted March 20, 2004 I agree, it appears the actually be a moving cache. Old enough to be grandfathered, so that's not an issue. The fact that it's not really a locationless cache is, though. It has a single, distinct location, and listing it as a LC means that location isn't listed in cache searches. Most cachers wouldn't even know it existed, even if it was 100ft from their front door. It also looks like it hasn't moved in a year, so maybe it doesn't even exist anymore? Needs more looking into.
Algonquin Bound Posted March 21, 2004 Posted March 21, 2004 The name search won't find it, because there is a typo in the cache name. It is called "Hitchhicker round the world", rather than "Hitchhiker round the world", as was probably intended. "Hitch-hiker around the world" would probably have been even more appropriate.
briansnat Posted March 21, 2004 Posted March 21, 2004 It looks like a moving cache wrongly designated as a locationless.
CO Admin Posted March 21, 2004 Posted March 21, 2004 So how does it get a proper designation? More importantly, does it really matter? its a grandfathered OLD cache. Labels were a lot looser then. At the time it was approved it may have been the right cache type to use. I'm not sure its even worth bothering with all the trouble to try to change it.
