The current approvers have been assembled in many ways, but the advice some have given in the past is to just ask. Send an email to the contact address (contact@geocaching.com??) offering to help. If they need someone from your area maybe you'll be given the job.

1. Give up any ideas of receiving respect.

2. Preparation is everything-Subject yourself to daily verbal/written abuse, if your married, you should already be used to this.

3. Stare at yourself in the mirror, practice muttering, "why did I ask for this ?"

4. Pull out as much of your hair as possible.

5. Might help to have someone hit you in the head with a two-by-four.

I think that the general criteria are that you are a veteran geocacher, with a solid track record of finds and hides and have proven yourself in the forums to be level headed and coherent.

If you are all of the above and if there is a need in your area, you will be contacted. If you approach TBTB you will probably get a "thanks, but no thanks" answer.
