TimSkells
Now wouldnt that be a good idea to put in a cache. Place a good movie in a cache and then it lets some one else have a movie to watch for the night. I think I will make a cache based just on this idea. Do you like this idea? Quote Link to comment
TahoeJoe
I found this cache which is also a video cache. Video-Rama Quote Link to comment

TimSkells
tapes arnt electronic so i dont think they will break DVDs always work too Edited December 28, 2003 by ALgeocacher Quote Link to comment
+CO Admin
If the tape were to become damp inside and then be placed in a VCR you would be looking at a very expensive repair since the tape would stick to the head drum and ruin the heads. VCRs use an air bering that doesn't work on damp tape. Moisture would tend to migrate inside the tape cassette. Quote Link to comment
+Team GPSaxophone
tapes arnt electronic so i dont think they will break DVDs always work too But they do get brittle in the cold and melt in the summer heat DVD's are far more durable, but also more expensive right now. Quote Link to comment
TimSkells
Usually only about 3-5 dollars more and if u own it any way but dont want to watch it any more or for a while then why not put it in a cache. It is very possible you can always ask for it to come back to the cache so you can get it again. Another thing to do might be copy the DVD or VHS to a blank DVD and put that in the cache Quote Link to comment
Captain Chaoss
Wonder if I could just post co-ords to the giant box in my attic thats taking up space ? bought a DVD player and never looked back. Quote Link to comment

+datum
Play It Again, Sam Cache is an ammo box, the tapes seem to do OK. Quote Link to comment
TimSkells
geocaching should make these caches there own name like multi caches and virtual caches have Quote Link to comment
BeDoggy
You could also vacuum pack a cassette with a silica gel pac. moisture probably wouldn't get in, but if a little condensation formed with temperture changes that could be taken in by the silica gel pac. Quote Link to comment
TimSkells
im sure the tapes would be just fine Quote Link to comment
+garri
This way of sharing films is totally legal? Quote Link to comment
+Kealia
If the goal is to share a movie, you could always do something like this. I've also placed a VHS in a cache that seemed to fare well. It was only in there a week, and the area was wet and cold but I've heard no complaints. Quote Link to comment
TimSkells
its just as if you were trading a video to a friend Quote Link to comment
+sturgeongeneral
I saw this in October when in Tahoe and got snowbound so couldn't go for it. At Caching around the Christmas tree Event Snoogans indicated a soon to be released cache of this type he was setting up. Quote Link to comment
+Team GPSaxophone
This way of sharing films is totally legal? Putting your own tape or DVD in a cache is legal. You are giving it away. Making a copy of your own tape or DVD is legal as long as it is for your own personal use. Making copies of your movies to place in caches is illegal. Quote Link to comment
+pater47
I placed a VHS inthis cache, primarily because the cache itself is loosely based on the movie (right now it's archived because of all the Nat'l Wildlife Refuge brouhaha so you'll have to be logged in to link to it). It seems to have held up fine despite being a really lousy movie. How lousy you ask? Well, so far the only person to take it from the cache BROUGHT IT BACK! Quote Link to comment
+wray_clan
CDs are smaller and therefore can be put in more caches than a VHS. I've seen CDs but not a VHS in a cache, but I think they're both great ideas. Quote Link to comment
TimSkells
music usually changes what perople like from person to person more than a movie though so a movie you will have more people who will want it Quote Link to comment
+Fritz_Monroe
I located a couple music trading caches close by but haven't had the time to go find them. They seem to have a lot of people visiting them. My main use for something like this is to try out a different type of music than what I'm used to. There are also a couple that the initial contents were movies and tapes. I do like the idea of a movie inspired cache. There's been several movies filmed here in Baltimore, but most were in the city and not that many places to hide a cache big enough to hold a bunch of videos. F_M Quote Link to comment
