+Mark 42
Sometimes I feel a bit cheated when I have to go to more than one cache to get the coords for another, or there is a "bonus cache", and after finding two or more caches I only get to log one find. I'm trying not to get hung up on the numbers game, but I guess I like to know how many I have been to at a glance of my personal stats. What do y'all think? +Kouros
I kinda always thought that after you had found a multicache, the page should say how many individual steps made up the cache, and that a tally could keep count of all visited. That said, I'm not overly fussed. I'm not a big fan of the numbers game - without looking I couldn't tell you even roughly how many I'd found (I could guess it was in the seventies or eighties, but I'm not too sure), so overall, it doesn't really faze me. Bit of a circular post, I guess. Sorry. EDIT: 76 apparently. I feel so proud. ------ "There's Sparticus. That's him, over there." Quote Link to comment
+woodsters
You know how many you've found. People look at caches differently. One that loves multi's might regard them as a tougher and better type of cache and look highly at the number you have of that type. While they might think negatively of another. I say don't worry about numbers. It's easy to go after 1/1 type of caches and rack up the numbers or search out locationless ones on here. But I think more respect is given to higher difficulty caches that require more brainpower and physical exertion...but that is my opinion....others may look at it differently.... +Mark 42
I'm still tryint to get past that proposed imposed 15 find requirement so I can place my first cache (so far I have a container and a pen, but my wife & kids will be out of town next week, so I should have contents for it pretty soon ) I'm not really too concerned which way they are, but was really more curious what other people prefer, and why some are one way, and others are the opposite. I would do this even if there were no stats kept at all. I have yet to be a "first to find", but I figure if one comes online while I'm on vacation and have time, I'll give it a try, otherwise, I'm not really in that hunt. It'd be fun to get there first, but not something to crow about. "I'm not Responsible... just ask my wife, She'll confirm it" Quote Link to comment
+Kealia
I agree with the previous psots. Don't get hung up on the numbers and feeling 'cheated'. While I see your point about how many cahces you've bee nto, that's not really the goal is it? Besides, everybody that finds those same caches can only post one find too so you're not behind . I just activated a 6-leg multi where you acquire 1/6th of the final coords at each leg. I know some people won't bother attempting it, but those that do will be rewarded nicely with a great cache and location. (In the final cache there are laminated sheets detailing the history of each stop along the way). In any case, I've only got 40-something finds, but if the next 40 are as interesting as the first 40, I don't case it I ever break 100. Just rambling....Bottom line: Don't miss the forest for the trees. It's the fun and the locations; don't sweat the numbers. Quote Link to comment
+The Leprechauns
I think that part of the beauty of this game, and why numbers really don't matter much, is that you get the same single yellow smiley face regardless of whether you find a 5-terrain hydrocache, a 3/3 multicache with a 5 mile hike, a 4/1 puzzle cache, the picnic pavilion at the location of an event cache, a 1/1 park and grab, a yellow jeep locationless, a virtual cache that requires an 8 mile hike, and a virtual cache that requires pulling off the road to read a historic marker. They all count the same, and any attempt to compare numbers is like comparing apples and oranges. It's approximate at best. x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x Next time, instead of getting married, I think I'll just find a woman I don't like and buy her a house. Quote Link to comment

What do y'all think? _ "I'm not Responsible... just ask my wife, She'll confirm it" _ When I first started, I actually started a spreadsheet to keep track of the individual waypoints as finds. I did this to track how often my GPSr placed me at GZ with the coordinates. That is, when I reached the coordinates, can I look at my feet and see the cache? As a coincidental by-product, I have tracked the total number of waypoints hit. That's 52 waypoints for 36 finds. This does not take into account any DNF's. My stats currently stand at 45% at GZ versus 55% anything past 3 feet. Cheers! TL Quote Link to comment

+Renegade Knight
I'm for individual difficulty ratings. Nothing like a 1/1 that ends up a 5/5 on it's last leg. You can do a mulity cache like that though. Make several normal caches and have a 'multy'that makes you visit the other caches to find it. The other caches can be listed in their own right. Or you can use other existing caches. One person here in pocy just put out clues in normal caches. You move them around and have to visit existing caches to find them and his cache. +worldtraveler
Feel cheated? Not me! IMnotsoHO, the primary objective of this activity is to use a GPSr to navigate to specific locations. If a single cache gives me the opportunity to accomplish that objective multiple times, I consider it a bonus, not a penalty! I generally get more satisfaction finding one multi consisting of "X" waypoints than finding "X" caches each having only one waypoint. I also find it to be less disappointing when I fail to find the box at the end of a multi. I guess the success of navigating through the preliminary waypoints provides sufficient satisfaction to offset the disappointment of not finding the box. I may have missed the icing, but I enjoyed several pieces of cake along the way! worldtraveler Quote Link to comment
