+JohnnyVegas Posted June 3, 2003 Posted June 3, 2003 This is a cache in my area, only two people have even looked for . My guess is the mention of all the Poison Oak by the cache. I am going to mention this in my next Geocahing seminar on how not to Hide/Post a cache. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=70563 Quote
+The Leprechauns Posted June 3, 2003 Posted June 3, 2003 Uhhhh, the cache was placed less than two weeks ago???? Give it a chance... the early DNF logs say that the owner needs to check the coordinates. I wouldn't hunt it until I see a note posted from the owner. That would hold me back more so than the description of poison oak. The cache page didn't seem all that bad. x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x-x Some mornings, it just doesn't pay to chew through the leather straps. - Emo Phillips Quote
+sbell111 Posted June 3, 2003 Posted June 3, 2003 It looks OK to me. One person couldn't find it and another didn't have sat lock. Have you looked for it yet? Quote
+Stunod Posted June 3, 2003 Posted June 3, 2003 Looks fine to me also. The warning about poison oak is nice...I'd rather know to keep a look out for it then come home itching. "Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand." Quote

+jollybgood Posted June 3, 2003 Posted June 3, 2003 I wouldn't hesitate to go for this one if I lived in the area. I always appreciate a heads up on any ivy in the area. Jolly R. Blackburn http://kenzerco.com Quote

Rabbit 282 Posted June 3, 2003 Posted June 3, 2003 No need to warn about poison ivy in my area- you can't have a cache without it. Some places worse than others, but all places infected. If we talked about all the problems, no one would ever come to Southern Illinois. To list a few: Poison Ivy Ticks West Nile Virus (in dogs) Copperheads Cottonmouth rattlesnakes (two types) Rednecks College Students Hill Kittys I could go on, but I want visitors. /Benjamin Carbondale, IL Caching Newbie Quote
+OzzieSan Posted June 3, 2003 Posted June 3, 2003 Ahhh another fine post by the self proclaimed cache/GPS expert! And the point of this post was? Be careful patting yourself on the back at your seminar you may hurt yourself. Just remember. Getting there is half the fun... Quote
+JohnnyVegas Posted June 4, 2003 Author Posted June 4, 2003 Well. I did not say I was an expert on GPS, but I started selling them when the first consumer Magellan models hit the market around the time of the first gulf war. I would be suspect of anyone who claimed to be an expert on anything, I have known many so called experts over the years. Most of them had not learned anything in their field for some time, because they felt they knew it all. As far as Geocahing, it is not that hard to set up a seminar to teach people about geocaching and bring more people into the hobby. Of course you will have to set up some caches for them to find and teach them what to look for. I had 15 students for my May seminar and it looks like I will have more for the next one in July. Lets face it, it is not hard to find a cache. I would like to know how many seminars Team 5-oh has given. For that matter, I would like to know how many seminars other Geocachers have given. Quote
+OzzieSan Posted June 4, 2003 Posted June 4, 2003 I have given about 47 seminars in the past 20 or so years. Thats nice you started selling the maggies when they first hit the market. I wonder if anyone else started selling them about that time as well? I am curious why you would like to know how many seminars others have given? Are you looking for more reasons to pat yourself on your back? And you never did mention why you started this thread... Just remember. Getting there is half the fun... Quote
+sbell111 Posted June 4, 2003 Posted June 4, 2003 The cache has a difficulty of 3 stars. The Kash Kommandos have found 20 plus caches. It wasn't found by the first hunter (the second couldn't get sat lock, so lets not even consider that a 'no find'). There's no real reason to jump to the conclusion that this one is missing. It is probably still in place. Why don't you go try to find it. While your at it, go after this nearby cache. Quote

Once at the cache you may need a few bottles of Raid to spray off the scorpions on the cache container, although the black widows may have taken care of the scorpions. Inside the cache you will find 10 broken mc'toys and 5 semi-used burger king crown hats. Hahahahaha sorry I couldn't resist! Live to Cache... Cache to Live... Quote

Just remember. Getting there is half the fun... May question about seminars was just that a question re Geocaching seminars, there are lots of people who have bought GPSR that never use them. SOme of these people have an interest in Geocaching but are not sure how to get started. I have not heard from many people who are doing Geocaching seminars, it's a good way to bring new people into the hobby. All it takes is setting up some caches that the students can cover in a short amout of time and two or three people to show them the way. We spend about an hour showing them samples of what caches may look like, then we give them printed out copies of the cache discriptions from the Geocaching web site and send them on thier way, most of our students have finished find the caches in about 90 minutes. As far as why I started the thread, believe it or not. I do not remember. Must be getting old. Quote

I wonder where this "couldn't find it so cache must be missing" attitude comes from. I'm sure a lot more people searched for my cache the first week but couldn't own up to defeat, since in my area people descend on a new cache in droves just to be FTF. No wonder I love this game so much! Quote
