Images no longer visible

Yesterday I noticed that on several of my geocache and event pages, the images I uploaded are no longer showing up.

Some affected are GCB1D8N, GCAW09T, GCAMQZ0, GCAC7X9, GCABDCW, GCA9MWM, GCA9G4Y.

For all of them I uploaded the images directly to geocaching.com when creating the pages, so they are not hosted in an external site that is currently down. When I try to coy the image link and open it in a new tab, I get an error message that the image cannot be found.

Are more people experiencing this problem? And is it a temporary bug or do I have to reupload all the images?

I checked some of my recent geocaches and the images are showing up fine on the app and website.

Yours are not showing up on either the app or the website when I view them. Maybe that helps?

The first GC code you mentioned has one image, right?  I see that normally in my browser (Firefox).

A suggestion, maybe it helps.  Instead of putting the "float" CSS stuff on the image tag, try wrapping the image in "div" tags rather than "p", and put the "float" on the div instead.  That's how I do it, and I'm not aware of any display issues with mine.  [example]  Best of luck.

Another thought.

Your listing specifies the URL

...which (when I load it directly) gets redirected to

Try specifying the latter form instead.  (I realize now, this is the way I've been doing it.)

That image I replaced due to the original image no longer showing. I tried the trick with changing the image link for GCAW09T, but to no avail The image remains invisible in both Microsoft Edge and Firefox.

I am looking at the second of the mentioned cache pages (Pi-Day 2025) in Firefox 133.0.3:

Maybe the issue already gone?

I have a similar issue with some of my caches. It's extremely annoying when there are a lot of them and they are needed to solve the puzzle :/

https://coord.info/GC9PZM0

This one is even weirder:
https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC891V1

The image (the map) which was back then uploaded to the cache gallery survived. The others, which where probably linked from a log entry to that cache (hard to remember right now) did not. Replacing the path from

https://img.geocaching.com/

to

https://s3.amazonaws.com/gs-geo-images/

doesn't seem to work. It looks like those images just vanished?

After I analysed a few of my caches, it seems the images that are missing were added using the feature of the built in editor (not inot the cache gallery):

I believe that's intentional. If I remember correctly, images that were attached to a deleted log get purged periodically. The idea is that if nobody can reach the image anymore, why bother storing it. The images may have been attached to a Reviewer Note or a Write Note that got deleted.

Hence the geocaching help articles point to this forum for bug reporting, it would be nice to get any kind of feedback from GC crew on whether this issue will be fixed . THe missing images were uploaded to GC using features of the site (editor).

We looked into this, and the missing images do not exist on our servers.

Your are saying "The others, which where probably linked from a log entry to that cache (hard to remember right now) did not."

The likely scenario is that this was the case, and either the individual logs were deleted, or the player posting the log(s) asked for their account to be deleted. In both cases we would delete the images from our servers.

I tested uploading images using the WYSIWYG editor, and it was working as intended, and the images where displayed correctly.

the images in this cache:

were not linked from any log but added with the WYSIWIG editor.

I notice that some images I directly uploaded to the Forums have become unavailable.  Is it the same issue as in the Op?  At least some of these were posted maybe a couple years ago.  They've disappeared sometime in the past year, likely recently.

I couldn't immediately tell why some are visible now and some aren't.

Here's a thread with examples.  The ones in my posts were uploaded using the Forum's image upload tool.

Yes, I've noticed that too with a lot of my forum images. It seemed to happen when the forums were off-line for maintenance a month or so ago, and images posted prior to then have mostly disappeared and just show a broken link.
