+Naqa
I am a new geocacher, with a new gps garmin 64st. So when I find a cache, I can log it as found on the gps. When I get home, do I have to log into geocaching.com and log it again? I don't want to do double entry! Quote Link to comment

Yes, but the process can be made easier by using drafts (formerly known as field notes). Basically, you upload a formatted file from your device to the site, and then you will have drafts ready for the caches you marked found. From there, you can edit the log message and post the finished logs. See also the Help Center article Upload drafts (field notes). 1 Quote Link to comment
+Naqa
sure seems cumbersome. Especially when downloading cache info into the gps is so slick. Having both a cell phone and a gps in the field, using one for finding the cache, the other for logging it seems crazy. Working with the drafts looks promising. I will have to try this one. Thank you both for your input. Quote Link to comment
+noncentric
One of the benefits of using Drafts is that it's usually easier to type log text at a computer, rather than entering text into the GPSr. I use a Garmin GPSr and will create draft logs with abbreviated notes, like "DL" for 'dry log' or "WL" for 'wet log' or "LF" for 'log full'. I'll then upload those draft logs to my computer and type longer log text using my computer keyboard. I don't type of my logs every day. Sometimes I'll go through my Drafts and log my caches on the weekend. The Draft logs will retain the date that I created the log, so my logs still show up with the correct date. 1 Quote Link to comment

Thank you both for your input. It may seem cumbersome but a GPS does not transmit any data so there is no way to get it to send logs entered on the GPS to the web site unless you physically connect it to a computer. Once the connection is made you can transfer those logs/drafts to the computer for entry into the site. Personally, I don't create drafts on my GPS. Although I never find more caches in a day than I can remember, I used to just keep a notepad that I'd used to jot down anything I wanted to include in my online log. Quote Link to comment

Falling out of your pocket? Hanging from a lanyard? Quote Link to comment

Sometimes. But back to the OP... It's really encouraged to log your finds back to "mission control", either through the website directly or via an app. It's essential feedback, and a way of saying thanks. This beast of a phone is taking abuse about as well as the old Garmin did, no wait, the phone came with a screen protector and a spare. If I peel it off and put on the spare, it'll be like new again. Awesome-looking phone. Looks like a "Panasonic Toughbook"! But, how did you take that picture? Did you point your phone's camera out in front of you, then activate the ten-second shutter delay, then hold it out in front of you so it would be in the shot? Quote Link to comment
