Favorite, Toughest, Most Interesting Caches

Okay, it's been a while since someone floated this topic in the NE forum.

Who wants to give a plug (shamless?) to a recent cache they've hunted that for one reason or another was one you just had to add to your watch list.

Let's see, Team Ekitt10 has become very found of these:

Pennys on the Tracks, I nice walk through the Pine Barrens, with a little tneiglel twist. icon_wink.gif

Alice's Restraunt and Feature Cache, just because, I love finding stuff like this in the woods. It make me feel like an archeologist or something. Plus, there are several other caches in the area of both of there, so they where part of multi find days.

Manunka Chunk Tunnels, Weird New Jersey and trains. What else do you need?

You Are the GPS, keep your eyes peeled for the NJ edition, this one got me using those math skills that in high school would invoke the phase, "when am I ever gonna need this?"

The Giant's Stairs What a hike! What a view! I got my wife out in one piece, so it can't be all that bad, huh?

Not to meantion the Status Crow Huntand New Jersey Statewide Hunt.

Let's hear 'em!

I like to be made to work, and for that reason I would also include "The Legend of Haviland Hollow" and "Blue Moon". For a surprise location I would vote for "Wish You Were Here" and for good workout I would vote for "Herbert Mine", "Race You to the Top", "Bearcat's Crack in the Rock" and "Sterling-GC2". I still have some good hikes yet to do in Waywayanda, and no doubt some of those will make my list.

Actually, this was one of our favorite cache hunts, even though we didn't find the cache. That's an awesome spot, even if it is a bit precarious. icon_smile.gif

We actually plan to make a day at Cheesequake soon.

Brain, I'm glad to see the Stone Living room is back, there's also a letter box there, so I think a fall trip to West Milford is in order. icon_wink.gif

This one is interesting, but I was unable to complete it in the manner it was supposed to be done. The second or third spot eluded me. I kept with the theme and finally spotted it.

One of the more interesting hunts I recall was:

It's been close to a year since this was posted and there are a lot of new geocachers and caches in the area. Any new ones to add to the list?

I'd have to add:

Cauldrons Of Courage. Nice walk, interesting concept.

Balderdash. Another interesting concept.

GC5 for the insane bushwack to get there.

Melvin's Multiple Madness, because it was a challenging hunt in an area that I'd never have otherwise visited.

NY/NJ Multi State Multi Cache, which I've yet to complete, but I got the picture.

Mouse's Tree House because it was just plain fun (and I apparently wasn't the only person who went the wrong way).

On Golden Hollow

This is an awesome cache well worth the travel for you Jersey cacher's. The people that placed it put alot of thought into each leg of the cache and stocked the final cache with tons of good stuff. It took me a total of eight hours to complete it some of that time was learning how to work the functions of my new "V" but most was time spent scratching my head. Check it out.

I don't know where you are all from - but if you have the opportunity and are near the NY/VT border - visit Rusty 'O Junks Geocachers Geocache (GCFB02) prepare to spend a lot of time at this one. Rusty has created a multi which others should be based on. It is in a great area, extremely challenging and he unselfishily put in some great items for the first finders of the cache. If you have a minute take a look at the logs - if you have a day or two, go up to Tibbidts Forrest on Rt 7/9 on the NY/VT border and have a great time.

Happy hunting!

Looks like a good one. It's in an area I frequent and it is now near the top of my list.

Some of the most recent finds for us that are worth of meantion.

We really like Magoo's Multi in Middlesworth. A fun multi in a quiet park. Woth a couple dastardly tricks by good ol' Magoo.

Natureboy44 gets two nods; once for Romeo Y Julieta, even though you might be able to spot the hiding spot from 100ft away, once you find it, you'll still astonished. Plus the Sourlands is an awesome park.

A big grin and nod of the head for his, Picture This cache. It's different and again is in a very interesting area.

Finally, amongst the controversy, HartClimb's Sitting CrossLegged on the Floor really bridges the difference between a tradition cache hide and a cache mind-bender where additional knowledge may help out immensely.

Two Springs by the Mad King Pellinore was another fun one. It ended up costing me $30 bucks or so since several pow-wow session had to take place at the Menlo Park Diner.

I have to agree, this is one of the toughest caches we have searched for.

* Even though we didn't find the cache icon_frown.gif

* Even though we saw a rattlesnake icon_redface.gif

* Even though we ran out of water when we reached the cache location icon_eek.gif

We had a great time. It took my son (9) and I about 7 hours to reach the cache site. (that includes stopping to cook soup for lunch). Here are the pics we took from our trip!

Some things are lost, some left behind.

Some things are better left for someone else to find.

My favorite caches have been The River View cache A considerable hike up and down a mountain in each direction with a breathtakign view of the Allegheny River from well over 100 feet above it. And The Elves Think Magellan SUCKS Not only is this a great hike but its the anticacher cache. A two stage multi that informs you bushwhacking is not necessary but the trail makes a loop nearly a quarter mile out of the way. But bushwhacking it not advisable its one of the worst areas of undergrowth. There are briars and nettles and poison ivy everywhere off trail. But staying on trail isn't easy either there are several spring fed mud holes that block the trail. And if you would bushwhack you miss an adventure walkign up the stream which is pretty and has some intresting sights on its own.

Cool Pics!

I think we actually rested on some of the rocks I spotted in your pics! LOL! It was a rough hike. Took us 9 hours round trip. Once we each found the cache, we didn't stay too long, cause we wanted to get out before dark. I can't even begin ti think what hell that hike would be in the dark.
