+Highlands_Guy
I picked up a simple dogtag type trackable. It looks so bare without some type of add on. It's a "technology tag" so I was thinking of adding a small piece of "technology" to it (it has a chain on it). Is this considered bad form to alter a tag? Thanks for any input. Quote Link to comment

Is this in your inventory? I can see that you "discovered" All Around The World http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=4713973 , but you didn't log a "retrieved" for it. As for the adding of items to it, you should contact the trackable owner. That would be the person who is in the position to say how the trackable should be treated. B. Quote Link to comment

You're not altering the tag, just looking to attach something to it. The trackable's not yours. If you feel that strongly about changing the "look" of someone elses trackable, either ask the TO if they'd mind, or pick one up yourself and attach your "tech" to it. Quote Link to comment
+Highlands_Guy
Thanks for the replies. I'll take your advise and leave it as is and move it along. I'll pick up my own trackable and start my own tech. Is this in your inventory? The only option I have is to "Discover" it. When I first picked it up, I couldn't log it as Retrieved. Quote Link to comment
+thatbrowncat
Don't do anything without getting permission from the owner. That goes for changing/doing anything with someone's cache or someone's trackable. You don't own it, so it really isn't yours to change without consent. Quote Link to comment
+thatbrowncat
I once picked up a trackable with the chain only. Absolutely nothing attached to it. I moved it to another cache with a log that it was a chain only with the tracking number. It is still in the cache, according to the inventory, but the logs show there are no trackables there. I wonder did someone take the chain or are people just not discovering/moving it because it is nothing but a chain with a tag. http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=5478090 Quote Link to comment
+Ambrosia
Sometimes the hitchhiker falls off the travel tag. You can look and see if the travel bug's description talks about an attached item or if there are pictures in the gallery showing one. When I find a tag like this, I always let the tb owner know. I think you would have needed to log a "grab", as it was not in the inventory of the cache where you found it. Not sure how it got to be in your inventory without a "retrieve" or a "grab", but if it's there, and you can now log it as "visited" or "dropped", then that should be okay. B. Quote Link to comment
