two random cachers meet in a park..

A : hey B I see you walk from the north, where I have been all day -

did you find XYZ ?? I really tried but no luck..

B : sure it was hidden very good, but I got it..

A : cool could you please reveal a little bit, a hint or trick ?

B : Oh, I'm sure you'll spot it. I wouldn't want to ruin the surprise. But if you get stuck and the hint doesn't help, here's my number. Tell me what you've tried and I'll give you a nudge in the right direction.

My wife does not use this forum. She also does not log her finds unless it is required (Coin Challenge). Would she be considered/accused of being a sock puppet if she did dare to ask a question on this forum????? I have contacted the CO with my questions on puzzle caches but newbies to the forums are just that...newbies. I like reading the forums but sometimes I have to laugh at how heated some of these debates can become. Of course this current topic is very mild compared to some of them I have read.

So I assume she did not create her account 7 days ago, and has more than 0 finds, even if it's only a few for coin challenges. She would not come here with those credentials and use a term such as Waypoint Projection, something I've never even had to use myself personally in 8 1/2 years of Geocaching. She would absolutely under no circumstances be accused of being a sock puppet. I'm a trained sock puppet identification specialist, dating back to Usenet in the 1990's. B)

In all honesty I have to admit I do most of the logging in my geofamily (four of us). I guess I need to get a better understanding of some of the ins and outs of this forum. I definetly need to get better educated on what a sock puppet is.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. There was a dark period some months-plus ago where some users got banned and kept showing up with new accounts to stir up trouble with intentionally provocative threads. It raised the sensitivity to the idea of sock puppets around here a fair bit, at least for some.

You and your family should feel free to post whatever and whenever, and not concern themselves with how many finds a particular username has.

Three Native American women are sitting on animal skins on the ground.

The first is sitting on a deer skin. She has a son who weighs 140 pounds.

The second is sitting on a buffalo skin. She has a son who weighs 160 pounds.

The third is sitting on a hippopotamus skin. She weighs 300 pounds.

This is an example of the well known fact from geometry, that the squaw on the hippopotamus is equal to the sons of the squaws on the other two hides.

Edward (yes, was a math major)

Shouldn't the third person be 213 pounds (if she was rooted)?

I just don't know what to do anymore. He has posted only one location and the hints are "Trigonometry. Hypotenuse. Reciprocal." I know it can't be finding the distance between two points because only one is posted, and yes I have looked everywhere for another including source code. It can't be projecting a waypoint because there is no distance or bearing, so what is it then? Please help, thanks.

Give Google a try. You don't really need to know any more than that.

I re-read my posts, I guess some could find them snarky. Not you, but The Incredibles. Definitely not my intention, big grin on my face the whole time, and I apologize if they find it snarky. Ambient_Skater, I'm sure he's fine. Heck, he made my profile pic!! Yes, I hate sock puppets, but not because of the incidents here. Almost forgot about them anyways.

So where did she get that hippopotamus skin?

I mean, was there some sort of fair trade conduit between Africa and the Americas like so many believe?

Naturally, this would also explain how the pyramid was exported from Egypt to Central America...

She got it on EBay of course.

That's the thing I remembered from way back when....and the "official" version too. Thanks for taking me back to my teens!

If you'd read Usenet for as long as I, the all caps posts would immediately make you think of PSUVM. I was a systems administrator and usenet site admin in 1984. I still remember downloading the scripts to perform the first pass at the Great Newsgroup Renaming in 1986. In response to one my first Usenet posts in the big 7 hierarchy someone called me an a**.

Yes, I know what uuencode is. If I recall, it was frequently used in groups for posting binaries, most notably images of nekid girls.

Yes and it is still used in some email systems today.

Having now read this thread for a while I realise I was wrong. As a newbie of two months I still don't use words like waypoint projection but manage very nicely to solve puzzles without whatever that means (or just do it without the tag). I don't ask for help in here for puzzles either but found Google is a great place to look for answers. The only time I contacted a CO for an answer first was when the geochecker was down and I was sure I had the right answer... I did... which they didnt reply to I might add. I have found that COs are usually happy to help if you log a DNF and then point you in the right track if you are way off.

So all in all, I have learnt a new term... sock puppet. Oh and this newbie is now PREMUIM too :o)

1. It's considered "bad form" to ask for puzzle help in the forums.

2. You didn't give us a link to the cache. Probably a good thing considering #1.

3. The only person that should give you any help is the cache owner. I suggest you email him/her.

4. You don't have to find every cache. The "ignore list" was created for a reason.

and to think I have been asking friends or past finders (and vice versa, or both) for help all these years if I chose to not ask the CO.

Speaking of asking the CO.......
