Why isn't GCHQ the cache code for Groundspeak Headquarters? The cache is unpublished and would make a great vanity code for headquarters.

I think it funny as default to look up a cache you would get GCXXXX and there was a cache by that name. Of course archived now.

Many years ago, while working as a systems administrator, I got a frantic call from someone that told me that the web site she was working on got hacked. It seems that for many of the links she was using "xxx" as a placeholder. As it turned out, she had also recently updated her browser (to Netscape 3.0 if I recall) which included a new url resolver that added "http://www." as a prefix and ".com" as a suffix to a string if the string was not a valid url. All of a sudden many of her links started going to a porn site.

Yes I did know it wasn't a cache. I posted for three reasons.

One, I am so immersed in geocaching that anytime I see GC I think about caching.

Two, I think that geocachers would be imminently qualified for this job.

Three, I think that GCHQ should be the Cache ID for Groundspeak headquarters, that makes it on topic.

Thanks for knowing me MrsB

Hey, it's not just the British intelligence community that needs puzzle solving help. The CIA needs some too.

I'm not sure it's a good idea to announce to the world you can crack their cipher though. You might be offered a job. Alternatively, you might be conveniently disappeared. Not that I have anything to worry about from them. No sir, not me. Dumb as a bag of hammers, I am. I can't even spell GCHQ.
