Other bugs, too, but mostly ants. But you should at least get a couple of years out of it. You are going to love the comments you get! Quote Link to comment
+geocat_
Love a cacher who shows some creativity! I am still a newbie but love thinking up something new when I choose to hide something. I think your creation is very cool and should get many "favorites"! Quote Link to comment
+briansnat
consider inserting small dowels in one side and drill a hole to seat them in on the other. That help will keep it together. Quote Link to comment
+jnielsen78
Thanks for the input. Yea i might try dowels next time. This one has a v shape cut due to my inexperience but holds it in place pretty good. And being a pine log hope it will hold up for at least a year or too. The place im eyeing for placement is under a really big tree log that fell in the woods Quote Link to comment
+broncobob9
I LOVE THIS!! You are evil - I like it! My only suggestion would be to put 2 hinges in it, that way the 2 pieces won't get separated. Quote Link to comment
+mudmonster 81
Thats great, I love the creativity. That could be a hard one to find. Quote Link to comment
+popokiiti
Sneaky. Evil. I love it! Quote Link to comment
+Stoka
I've just made one very similar to this. I thought about cutting the log in half, and using dowel to join it back together but I ended up hinging it instead, works a treat. Long live creative caches! Quote Link to comment
+jnielsen78
Cache published and hidden, now waiting to see how long it takes the FTF and see how difficult it really is. Was unsure exactly how to rate it being my first hide. Its sneaky but in plain sight and has a hint on the listing Quote Link to comment
+A & J Tooling
I've got some of these made already and just waiting to hide them. A good wood sealer will keep the ants off and stop the log from checking/cracking/drying out. Not the stuff you put on decks but the stuff you put on floors. The hinge idea works good too on keeping both halfs together. The screw holes need to be sealed too unless the wood is well seasoned or else, as it dries, it shrinks. Did you cut that on a band saw? Band saws leave the smallest cut and waste the least wood (so both sides match up better). Oh, btw, awesome 1st hide. 2 thumbs up. Quote Link to comment
+jnielsen78
No i don't have a band saw had to do both sides with a sawzall. Need more tools Quote Link to comment

Hoping it stays muggle free and doesn't go missing. I am more impressed that you have an original Weber Genesis grill in Red. Like mine. Got it over 20 years ago. With stainless burners and bars, they last forever. Just keep the wood trays and shelves out of the weather and stain them when needed. A classic. Quote Link to comment
+BCandMsKitty
No i don't have a band saw had to do both sides with a sawzall. Need more tools I was impressed before I read this! Now I'm amazed! Sawsalls aren't that easy to do straight cuts! Good job! I have a similar cache (but a different approach) I cut the end off a log and used a chain saw to hollow out the long end. Joined with dowels and hard drive magnets (very strong) I get lots of great comments about it, and I'm sure you will too! Quote Link to comment
