UK County List

We would like to release a geocoin to visit every county in the UK, does anyone know where we can get a definitive up to date list of counties in the UK. Google returns many lists none of which seem to be the same. As we use GSAK for our stats so we think this would be a good starting point for a list, it would seem that they use a total of 72 but alas we cannot find out which ones.

As the government keep screwing with the bordrs, it would probably be a good idea to use the links via wiki.

There's a GSAK macro called CheckUKCounties.gsk

This will list all the counties you have found caches in... and all the ones you haven't!

 

So, in total, a complete list of the counties GSAK uses

You could use the counties/maps on www.mygeocachingprofile.com (which was acquired by Groundspeak last year) ... as this is what all the gc.com stats are based on.

 

They show 46 counties listed for England, 8 for Wales, 12 for Scotland, 6 for Northern Ireland and also show Ireland (26) and Isle of Man.

 

Or the Little Quest English counties (47) ... also listed on www.mygeocachingprofile.com

 

I have both the map & the LQ list on my profile if you want to see what they look like.

We've got a TB, "The English County Counter" which has been trundling around ticking off counties since April 2008. It's using the Wiki list of English counties and has a link to that page for reference.

 

When creating these sorts of TBs which want to visit lots of locations (IMO) it's important to keep the TB page updated to show where its been - It makes it easier for those who find it, instead of them having to check back through lots of logs to work out where it's travelled.

The 12 listed for Scotland aren't counties, but regions. And they were abolished in 1996.

Hi I ended up using the list as used in GSAK with the option for others to suggest any missing counties. I have already added a list scoring through counties as they reach a new one. You will see gods county (Devon)is already scored through as this is where it started. The coin ref number is TB3PVBK
