+Hiekel Essterol
Hi there everyone. The names Paul, and Im a noob geocacher based in Wirral. I had heard the term Geocacher a few times, but never knew what it meant. Then a few days ago I was on a software site for my phone and came across some geocaching software so looked into it. The whole concept looked real interesting so I ended up here, registered, and tried (and failed) my first 2 trips out there. But it was fun, I really enjoyed it, so much so that I told the wife about it as something to try when the kids are on half-term from school next week. She loved the idea aswell. So next week we are off to see what we can find around the Wirral Peninsula. Want to start off with something nice and easy to see if the kids enjoy it before trying anything a little more challenging. I was thinking maybe of some of the Bidston Hill ones as there seem to be a few on there and its a great area to be, even if a little cold in this weather. Anyway, thats enough from me for now. Just wanted to say Hi, without just saying Hi Quote Link to comment
+*mouse*
Welcome to caching Word of warning - it's addictive! HazelS is a wirral cacher who is frequently on these forums. I'll sure she'll be able to recommend some good caches for beginners Quote Link to comment

Can't help with your Wirral request as we're in darkest Cornwall and to be honest the North West is somewhere we have only read about in folk tales from long long ago. Had to laugh at you trying it all out before you mentioned it to the wife. I like your style. I can't help but wonder how many things you have tried, and didn't enjoy, that your wife knows absolutely nothing about Have a great time next week, the kids will love it. +HazelS
Ha ha ha - yep - that'll be the cache outside my house!!! Welcome!! The Wirral caching scene is a bit bonkers, loads and loads of good caches to do, in fact, you're quite spoiled to be honest! You can start with easy ones like the one outside my house, and before you know it, you'll be cracking Philpamandrob's fiendish puzzle caches! OK - so there aren't many hugely long walks, but that's partly due to the shape of Wirral, but I'm here, I live in Bromborough, and I'm ALWAYS looking for someone to drag me out caching... You'll find the folks around here really accommodating and friendly, and there will be an event at the Cheshire Cat pub the 2nd week in November (cache page not yet published) where a load of us will be meeting up for a gossip and a TB swap and maybe a couple of drinkies!! The Wirral / Cheshire / N Wales cachers are a scream, and well worth getting to know for hints and tips on some of those puzzley puzzles! Anyway - Welcome, and drop me a line through my profile!! +HazelS
Oh - I forgot... Cache recommendations for half term.... a lovely walk and loads of caches en route... Ben Ten Series or there's about 8 or 9 caches in Eastham Woods that would be a great introduction.... look out for Hazel's Birthday Box series of caches. Eastham Woods is ALMOST at saturation point, so there's loads there!! Great to have a new caching team on Wirral! Quote Link to comment
+Original A1
Welcome aboard - the more the merrier. Just a word of warning - make sure your car is well-serviced and that the Petrol Fund is full of money - you're going to be needing it as you travel further and further afield once you get hooked! Also good to invest in a battery charger if you really get hooked... Have fun - we are! Quote Link to comment
+Hiekel Essterol
Thanks so much to everyone for the kind welcomes. Ive told the kids we have SOMETHING planned for the half term and one of them keeps trying to guess what it is. So far we have told him It begins with G There are more than 500 on Wirral There are more than a million in the world Its outdoors We dont have to stop doing it Its free (well mainly) So far he has guessed Golf Go-Karting Bowling ?!? Baseball?!? I have no idea how the last 2 begin with G haha. But I know that the one asking the questions is going to love it, he is just that type of kid. Had to laugh at you trying it all out before you mentioned it to the wife. I like your style. I can't help but wonder how many things you have tried, and didn't enjoy, that your wife knows absolutely nothing about ... And how many things has he tried, enjoyed, and WON'T tell the wife?!! How very dare you lol Thats a subject for a whole other forum haha. Thanks to gushoneybun and HazelS for first cache suggestions. I saw the Ben Ten set while I was looking around the site before signing up and thought they could be quite interesting. With a week to entertain the kids Im sure we will have plenty of time to search them out. HazelS, cant believe you have a cache outside your house You must really enjoy meeting new cachers Im sure we will give yours a try in the next week aswell. As I said in my first post I have tried a couple aswell, but there were people, or muggles as I am coming to know them' at the site of the first one I tried and the second confused me as the clue mentioned a gate and short fence, but there were 2 gates each with a short fence lol, and I ran out of time aswell as it was on the way to pick up Mrs. Essterol from work. No doubt I will revisit them this week with the family Essterol and hopefully be more successful. Thanks to Original A1 for the advice aswell. Im guessing this is born out of personal experience... +HazelS
I'll keep a look out for your logs!! I suspect the one you didn't find last week was my LQ Merseyside cache, it's a nano cache and not an easy one to find!! Just one last word.... PLEASE do not think about setting any caches using a phone instead of a GPS to get the coordinates... there are far too many caches on Wirral that have dodgy coords as they were set with an iphone!! If and when you want to place a cache, please get in touch and I will happily lend you my Colorado!! Quote Link to comment
+Original A1
Thanks to Original A1 for the advice aswell. Im guessing this is born out of personal experience... Well yes and no. I tried to cache out of my local area (Edinburgh) so's to keep closer ones for a rainy day (and for when Mr Brown upped the fuel prices so's I was more restricted). But I seem to have found lots in the city anyway, and of course it's a different person in No.10 now. But the battery thing is genuine - you go through heaps of them, believe me! Love the Gaseball and Gowling guesses! Quote Link to comment

As far as setting caches, I have been reading peoples thoughts on new caches, looked at the amount on the Wirral already, and I have decided that its going to be at least 250 finds before I even consider owning any caches myself. Besides that I think Im going to be having too much fun searching for all the existing caches to have the time to set and look after my own. Quote Link to comment
+HazelS
and was muggled at Seacombe Ferry. Ahhh yes - another little one that's not an easy one to find!! Quote Link to comment
+Hiekel Essterol
Couldnt hold out till Monday so we tried today. DNF'd at Seacombe Ferry again after a hour of searching and think we were right there. Gave up and took off to The Arno where we logged our first find!!!! We walked along straight past it at first and had to use the hint to find it, but find it we did. First of many I hope. Oh yeah, the kids are addicted now!! Quote Link to comment
+HazelS
The seacombe ferry one is difficult - a group of us went to find it - and we had over 4000 finds between us, and it still took us about 40 mins!!! Quote Link to comment
