If you weren't going to log it, why did you take it?

OK, being the nosey parker that I am, I want to know what you gang think someones motivation or reasoning for not logging a tb and dropping it somewhere else, or just plain keeping a tb are.

I can think of a couple quick reasons off the top of my head, but I'm wondering what the number one answer would be.

#1 -- lack of knowledge.

You'll never know what an individuals motivation is for stuff.

 

I know that a growing number of people cache using their cell phones. I know the official app has no way of logging travel bugs on it either picking up or dropping off which contributes to this problem.

 

Then there's the newbie factor in there too. You hit your first cache. You're not exactly familiar with what is going on and you find this thing that needs to travel to another cache and so you do it without logging anything. The website is not the most user friendly thing when dealing with some of those issues in the game. And I honestly can't blame anyone for giving up trying to find the answer.

 

Then there are the people who are going on trips and want to take bugs with them except they forget to mention it to the owners. I have two bugs I've been holding on to after e-mailing their respective owners because I'm going on a trip a little later this summer and will be doing some caching out there which will get those bugs closer to their destination. Now I have a friend who is not nearly as studious (good news is he doesn't have any travel bugs in his possession as I have them).

 

Then there are people who cache for a day take some stuff and decide it's not for them and don't give another thought to the stuff they took.

 

Or you have people who have a sudden life crisis that don't have time to personally e-mail people on the whereabouts of their items or why they're being held onto longer than normal with no logging.

 

People on vacation who can't log but did find a cache to drop it in but will logged that it was picked up and then dropped off when they get home.

 

And then just plain old thieves.

You could probably get a lot of answers if you searched the forums for the 10,000 times this subject has been done.

 

Basically humans are involved and they are flawed (some more than others)

Here are some possible answers:

 

1. I keep it because it is pretty and i really want it and i am a thief.

 

2. I accidentally keep it because i forget all about right after i pick it up and it gets lost in my bag/house or i drop it in the woods.

 

3. One day at a cache i find a TB/GC in my bag. I have no idea where it came from. I leave it in a cache without writing down the i.d. #. I get home and i realize i never even logged the pick-up. I live too far from the cache/i am too lazy to go back to get the number.
