+HazelS
Seems you're using an old counties list.... Wallasey (or anywhere else in Wirral, for that matter) is NOT in Cheshire!!! AND Merseyside doesn't seem to exist.... Anyway.... Edited May 12, 2010 by HazelS Quote Link to comment
+Birdman-of-liskatraz
I think you'd need permission of the owners of the "Coats of Arms" before you could use them - and I know from experience that, that permission isn't always forthcoming. Quote Link to comment

You mention a website with the county details on it, do they have any copyright notices saying whose permission they have sought to use the images? Quote Link to comment

You can't just use them with out gaining permission. Quote Link to comment

We spoke with the CC's "Head of Legal Services" who after listening to our request carefully, politely, pointed out that it was a corporate logo and could not be used withut permission, which would not be given. He knew about 'caching too! Great idea, but take care! You could, perhaps, alter the CoA slightly..... Edited May 12, 2010 by L8HNB Quote Link to comment
Gamma Ray
Just a quick thought, isnt each coin going to require its own die and therfore jack up the production costs? I know there are a few county coins out there (granted not using the coat of arms) I am in the middle of producing a Somerset representitive coin at the moment, just waiting to see the Die Art back from the company and it. (Some of you may have seen my idea develop in the Geocoins forum.) But i would be interested in seeing what you come up with for the Somerset coin so #30! Quote Link to comment

+RatRunCrew
You might be able to do what you want, but it would have to be thoroughly researched because copyright in a literary, dramatic, musical or artistic work (including a photograph) lasts until 70 years after the death of the author. Now some counties have been granted newer CoA but the ancient ones (over 170 years of age, just to make sure) are now free of copyright. I think its a good idea, but personally wouldn't buy one Quote Link to comment
+Birdman-of-liskatraz
at the risk of sounding all the more negative, I'd be more likely to buy a County Coin if it was produced by a group of cachers/a cacher in that County. I'll be looking out for the Somerset coin when that goes on sale. I rather like the thought and planning that goes into deciding what represents "Your" county. I've been involved with two coins for Cornwall. Details here I'd be unlikely to buy a Generic Cornish Coat of Arms coin. And yes I really should get on woth producing a new Cornish Coin.... Its going to be sold through coins and pins with their presale programme, so i hope people like it! Quote Link to comment

That sounds incredibly cheap, when you consider die art design, production of dies, costs of tracking codes etc. Not to mention the large amount of your own time. Which company will you be using to produce them? Also, the custom icon would require a minimum run of 50 coins. If you can really do this, it might be of interest to a lot of cachers who would like to produce a very small number of geocoins. Generally the price has been prohibitive. Quote Link to comment
