+bittsen
People who leave that sort of stuff are on the same level as a cache maggot as far as I'm concerned. Kids go caching and that is pretty close to mental molestation. Quote Link to comment

Kids go caching and that is pretty close to mental molestation. We've found some really some really gross stuff at caches before. Drug stuff, pipes, bongs, beer cans in a backpack, porn mags, a huge sword, to name a few. You never know what you will run into. Since I have kids I really try to be careful of where we go to cache these days. But one time a friend and I were caching up by Hyak and walked right into a weird Sci Fi porn movie being filmed!! That was unexpected!! Quote Link to comment
+Jomer & Traci
While I agree with the comments being made about caching with children, I believe that children will follow your example when finding something of this nature, not just at a cache, but anywhere. For younger children, they only know something is wrong if you react in such a way. Ignore it, or don't make a big deal out of it, and they will follow suit. For older ones, this is an opportunity to educate and discuss. At least these people are protecting themselves. And yes, I do think it wrong to leave things like this in a cache, I am pretty sure that it was NOT a cacher who did so. Probably a muggle that found it. Quote Link to comment
+ZeroHecksGiven
it was at a cache location, not necessarily IN the cache. I've found things like this before and have even been approached by men while at a cache site on two different trips. I'm guessing it was a popular location for older gay men to meet and do their things. But I could be way off. Regardless. It's how you treat the situation with kids that will leave a lasting impression. Gonna find this stuff more and more and as long as your kids know whats up, shouldnt be THAT big of a deal. +brodiebunch
At least they are using protection. Places geocachers may think a spot is for cache placement may also be good places for illicit activities. Quote Link to comment
+Criminal
...and have even been approached by men while at a cache site on two different trips. Open carry of a handgun is lawful in WA without any permit or license, and will prolly keep everyone from approaching you. Quote Link to comment

However, if you have a concealed weapons permit, then city law can't restrict open carry. It's complicated sometimes. Quote Link to comment

Rulings that the city can't be more restrictive than state law - but it's not settled yet legally (the city has backed off the ban in parks for now). Quote Link to comment

A recent court case on the right to bear arms in Seattle City Parks was struck down, on the grounds that State law superceds City law. Looks like The Jester beat me to it. If that fails there's always your trusty EDC Spyderco in your back pocket. Edited March 21, 2010 by nitro71 Quote Link to comment
+psykokiwi
We cache with our 5-year old and have run into beer can dump sites from parties, open condom pouches, etc at several locations. We generally note it, and steer the little guy around it, not because we are concerned for him seeing it, but because the area could be "contaminated". He is too little still to really know what any of it is and we don't want him to pick something up he shouldn't. However, he will point out the beer cans and say, "that's not good". He sees it as litter and litter is bad. I know it's disturbing, but like other posters have said; don't make a big deal about it, and kids won't be the wiser. Quote Link to comment
