Puppy Dawg
I'm thinking of getting some 4D firetacks and was wondering, if I peeled off the reflective sides and glued them to thumbtacks would they still be as reflective? Quote Link to comment

J-Way
Well... yes and no. The plastic would be just as reflective, but only from one direction. It might be cheaper to just by the reflective tape from the same company and cut it to fit. Quote Link to comment
Puppy Dawg
How big is a piece of tape? Quote Link to comment
Tequila
How big is a piece of tape? Google it and find out......or did you want us to go and buy it for you too? Quote Link to comment
J-Way
How big is a piece of tape?I don't know. Go here (http://www.firetacks.com/), and call and ask. Also, check out the "bargains" tab. I think you can buy some tacks that weren't made right and the reflective stuff wants to pop off anyway. Quote Link to comment
Puppy Dawg
I think I'll go buy some defects! Quote Link to comment
JackQuest
Check out the walmart or any hunting aisle for that matter, there should be reflective thumbtacks as well as reflective twist ties. There are used to mark a trail to favorite stand or hunting spot so that you can find it in the dark. Some still don't use gpsr's out there! Quote Link to comment
kunarion
How big is a piece of tape? Some tapes reflect better than others. Some are very disappointing, depending on the angle, lighting, and distance -- maybe it's not a big deal depending on your cache idea. Here's an expensive tape that's super bright: http://reflectivelyyours.com/generic144.html That's a honeycomb pattern, and you may need to cut out just the center of the honeycomb to stick on thumbtacks. With age, tape can get brittle, peel, and lose some reflectiveness. I also agree with JackQuest, that you should look for pre-made reflective thumbtacks. You could instead put a layer of epoxy on a thumbtack, press it into a cup of glass beads, and make thousands of the thumbtacks yourself. Safety stores sell the reflective beads for road stripes.
