phillipsdj
Hi all, My family and I are very new to Geocaching but love the idea of it and had our most enjoyable day out for a long time when we found our first one on Monday, however it is fast becoming clear that we will need to put together a caching kit. Could any of you help with suggestions/ideas of what will possibly be needed? At the moment all I can think of are: A torch Gloves A small first aid kit A pen. I'm sure I am missing some essential items but my mind is drawing a blank! Thanks in advance for any help! Quote Link to comment
+kahanamoku
A torch? I've been bringing a conventional compass with me and it's proven very useful. When you get close to GZ, sometimes your GPS will start to spin. Having a compass can get you close in those last 100 feet or so. I might also suggest bug spray. +Bubbles&Bonkers
A torch?? There's a forum thread that has photos and descriptions of what people are in their geocaching bags, but I couldn't find it. I know it depends on where you live. The people in the desert are carrying more survival stuff than us who do a lot of urban caching. We have: swag TBs & coins extra baggies in case we find we need to replace some pens GPS cell phone flashlights first aid kit compass snacks water bug spray Other people carry extra logs and such in case they need replacing. Happy caching!! Quote Link to comment
+TwoSox Trekkers
I think s/he meant flashlight. You have a good start going, and I recommend the traditional compass. I bring: -pen -pencil -ziplock with assorted trade items -camera -first aid kit (if not urban caching, otherwise it's in the car) -Camel bak for extended hunts -gloves -pocket knife or leatherman tool Edited April 9, 2009 by TwoSox Trekkers Quote Link to comment
+macatac1961
Extra batteries, rechargables would save you some money in the long run. And a walking stick for poking into places you don't want to be sticking your hands. Might want to through a pair of work gloves in the bag for possible poison ivy areas. Welcome to the game. +ziggy4733
I'm selling a geocaching kit on ebay. If anyone would be interested in looking at it, it's a great kit for beginners. Even if you don't want to buy it, it's a great reference for creating your own kit. Here's a link to the listing: GeoToGo Kit ziggy4733 Quote Link to comment
+DiamondDaveG
I think s/he meant flashlight. You are correct..... in the UK 'torch' is the same as 'flashlight' in the US. Quote Link to comment
+bumbleguide
I've just started geocaching and the most important item in my bag is my gardening gloves, cos before I got them I sliced my hand on hidden glass and had nettle stings all over my hands but that's just typical of me. I also carry a set of childrens gardening tools (to hold back long prickly plants without damage), swag, torch (flashlight for the non english ) handheld compass, gps, tissues, wet wipes, whistle and mobile phone. tThe last two items are cos I go out on my own, my family are all stuck to their pc's .
