  1. That would be funny and or helpful if the Google results came up with anything. Fail.
  2. Anybody know a Geocaching app that works on a Samsung Instinct HD? Thanks in advance.
  3. Yeah that's what I'm saying... it tells me the right number of caches. I just tried building another one. We'll see if it works. The fact that I can preview it is really the only thing I need anyway. Didn't see that the first time.
  4. It doesn't really strike me as difficult. I built a query of all caches I've found, set the state to Wisconsin... after I submit it gives me a proper preview. Then it just never shows up in my email.
  5. Pocket Queries are the only way That seems pretty silly. Only because I can't get queries to work. Maybe I'll give it another shot.
  6. I can't find a way to search for a cache based on its terrain rating. Can this be done?
  7. I found a GC yesterday that needed some maintenance. I went to log it this morning but I didn't get credit for the find, so then I went and logged it in again as a find. I'm assuming this was the wrong way to do it. What should I have done?
  8. Very funny. I've done enough homework to know about this
  9. I'm starting to get the feeling I should have posted this in the newbie forum
  10. I was just at a GC where the coordinates lead me right to an animal carcass. To top it off, the cache was missing...
  11. Yeah... no doubt. I'm going to do my first virtual today and it sounds really cool. I suppose there are enough left to keep me busy for a while.
  12. I had this happen a couple times. Not much you can do but wait it out.
  13. I'm also pretty new but I had a heck of a time finding anything until I realized I was on the wrong datum setting. Now that I've got the hang of it, the most important thing for me is not relying too heavily on my GPS. If you're within 10-20 feet of the cache, put the GPS away and start using your instincts. Don't wait for your GPS to tell you you're 2 feet away because in most cases, it just isn't going to happen. Also, Google's satellite maps are very helpful...
  14. A torch? I've been bringing a conventional compass with me and it's proven very useful. When you get close to GZ, sometimes your GPS will start to spin. Having a compass can get you close in those last 100 feet or so. I might also suggest bug spray.
  15. Pretty much what I figured. Thanks for the help
  16. If you log a DNF and you later go back and successfully find the GC, do you delete your DNF log?
  17. I'm new, but I'm going to suggest not hiding a cache on a public basketball court in the ghetto of a major metropolitan city, about 6 inches from the house next door to it. I won't soon forget my 5th find.
  18. Just an update... I ending up finding that GC later that night. Pretty well hidden. I spent the whole rest of this weekend geocaching. I think I'm obsessed! As far as the coordinates go, they are in one format on the website, and another format when I search them on my phone. No idea why, but it's easy to switch back and forth bewteen formats if I need to. Thanks to everybody for all your help!
  19. Well after all is said and done, I entered those coordinates in the ddd.ddddd setting and now they work. I see what you mean about the website not using that format, but when I use my phone to look up caches they come up that way... or at least the first one I looked at did.
  20. Look up the location with Google Earth or Google Maps (link on cache page). Does that look like where your gizmo is pointing you? How did you enter the waypoint? manually? downloaded? tapped it with your wand? try inputting your gizmo waypoints into google maps and compare. Jim Here's the problem I'm seeing. The coordinates for the cache are N 43.04198 W 088.05886. When I enter them in my Etrax the look like N 43 04.198 W 088 05.886. This can't be right can it?
  21. I changed the datum and that didn't really seem to help. It's still saying the cache is too far away. Anything else I could be doing wrong?
  22. I don't live in Oregon. I'm a fan of the sports teams
  23. This is a clue. On the etrex go to the units menu and make sure you have DD MM.mmm (degree, decimal minutes) and the WSG-84 datum. Now your the same as GC.com. The cell phone your on your own. Jim hmmm what about hddd mm.mmm? that seems to be the closest option and i wasn't on wsg-84 either. maybe that was it.
