+azspecter
Hey guys- I just installed Google Earth, threw in the GSAK plugin for mapping circles at .1mi radius (for placing caches) and am finding out that Earth SUCKS. The caches move around the map randomly- making it IMPOSSIBLE for any degree of accuracy. What other options are there for drawing circles on maps that actually WORKS? Quote Link to comment
+Tequila
I use Mapsource and the proximity feature. Quote Link to comment

Try turning off the elevation layer in Google Earth; also go into preferences and turn off the "auto tilt when zooming in" feature. Quote Link to comment
+azspecter
Nope- that didn't do a thing to it- same results... Quote Link to comment
+Red90
Use GE-path in GE. http://www.sgrillo.net/googleearth/ Quote Link to comment
+PDOP's
... The caches move around the map randomly- making it IMPOSSIBLE for any degree of accuracy. What other options are there for drawing circles on maps that actually WORKS? The caches are moving around because you are using the "Geocache browser" in Google Earth. GC.com does that on purpose so you can only get the exact coordinates for a cache from the website. To properly see the caches stationary you should first use the GoogleEarth.gsk macro (link) then the GoogleEarthCircles.gsk macro(link). You should also turn off (uncheck) the "Geocache Browser" in Google Earth. Quote Link to comment

Just confirming - The GE browser shifts the caches around in a fuzzy sort of way on purpose - forcing you to visit the listing page for actual location. Quote Link to comment
+azspecter
Awesome- that SEEMS to have done the trick. HOWEVER- for some reason I'm not seeing the actual caches show up- just the circles. Yes, I used the GoogleEarth Macro first. Kinda odd... Quote Link to comment
ao318
When you downloaded the GSAK caches onto google earth you will notice a small bar on the top right hand corner of the map, it is showing horizontally. You can click and drag the bar to view the caches in that area. I believe the default set up lists the caches by date of placement so you will have to scroll the bar all the way to the right to see all of the caches in your area. Quote Link to comment
+TheSurfcaster
Don't forget to take into consideration multi stage caches and puzzle caches. You may not know where these are and the may fall into the .10 range. Quote Link to comment

You can use tools at www.gpsvisualizer.com to draw a circle around a cache as well... Quote Link to comment
