+Geo Jeff
For what it is worth, I looked up and figured out the cache per state, caches per capita and caches per square miles. http://www.jefflaun.com/Geocache/CachesPerState.html Geo Jeff (leave more than you take) Quote Link to comment
+va griz
Wow, I'll bet a lot of work went into those interesting stats. Thanks for that. Did you run the totals? (average Cache per capita and total caches in the US for instance) Quote Link to comment
+ccwrestlechik105
That is crazy! I wish we could get a rough estimate on how many geocachers reside in each state. Quote Link to comment
Skippermark
Neat stats. Thanks for sharing. What's interesting is that states with lots of caches like CA have very cache dense areas in certain spots but aren't always that high up on the overall state density level because they have such vast amounts of land too. +Chi-Town Cacher
Thanks for the stats. I don't have the ambition to do what you've done, but I sure appreciate being able to see how my state compares to others. I'd love to move someday and having this info could help point to good spot to live. You've lived up to your signature line. Thank you!!!! +KD7MXI
some of your math seems strange look at district of columbia there are 91 caches hidden and there are 1,338 caches in a 1000 mile area Quote Link to comment
+Geo Jeff
some of your math seems strange look at district of columbia there are 91 caches hidden and there are 1,338 caches in a 1000 mile area Thanks for checking on me, but I think the math is correct. There are 91 caches in DC, and the area is 68 square miles. so that is 91/68 or 1.338 caches per square mile. So if you had that density in 1,000 square miles, that would be 1338 caches per 1000 square miles. Geo Jeff (leave more than you take) Quote Link to comment
+NYPaddleCacher
That is crazy! I wish we could get a rough estimate on how many geocachers reside in each state. I am assuming that information would be available in the Groundspeak geocache database. With a few calculations one TPTB could probably determine a cache density compared to the number for geocachers (assuming everyone entered their home coordinates) for any location on earth. I see you're an old timer, so you may or may not remember when Buxley's Maps had the same information. But they ran into an impasse with TPTB in early 2005, I think it was, and the information for geocaching.com is long gone from his website. And yes, your D.C. number is correct. Since almost all of them are virtuals, that's about the same number as it was 4 years ago. Quote Link to comment
+Hobo2
Very interesting, the less dense the population, the more active the Geocacher. Quote Link to comment
+mtn-man
Of course, that is only a snapshot in time. I published some caches today and messed up your list. Quote Link to comment
