  1. Thanks for checking on me, but I think the math is correct. There are 91 caches in DC, and the area is 68 square miles. so that is 91/68 or 1.338 caches per square mile. So if you had that density in 1,000 square miles, that would be 1338 caches per 1000 square miles. Geo Jeff (leave more than you take)
  2. For what it is worth, I looked up and figured out the cache per state, caches per capita and caches per square miles. http://www.jefflaun.com/Geocache/CachesPerState.html Geo Jeff (leave more than you take)
  3. On the Garmin 76, you hold down ENTER, which creates a new waypoint. Then you just edit the coordinates. Geo Jeff (leave more than you take)
  4. I also would like archived caches shown in Pocket Queries. My reason is when I download a query of my 'FOUND' caches, the archived caches don't come through. Geo Jeff (leave more than you take)
  5. I just fixed my own problem. Somehow I found that I was no longer subscribed as a Premium member. I re-applied my subscription code and the pocket query link re-appeared. Geo Jeff
  6. Did I miss something or did Pocket Queries disappear? I didn't receive a query this week and the link from "My Cache Page" is missing. Thanks for any feedback, Geo Jeff (leave more than you take)
  7. I don't like to read the hints, but get upset when people put in hints that don't relate to the cache location. For instance, many say where to park, or go left at the fork. But what good are these hints, if you wait until you are at the cache to read them. Geo Jeff (leave more than you take)
  8. As a second coincidence, I (a skydiver) posted a message right after another skydiver's message. Geo Jeff (leave more than you take)
  9. A non caching friend stopped by a side trail to take a pee break and discovered a cache. When she read the log she was doubley surprised to see my name listed. Geo Jeff (leave more than you take)
  10. I think a little competion is okay, but the numbers mean nothing if people don't find a cache but log a FIND anyway. I hate it when people do that because the "Last found" date looks like the cache is there when in fact it may not be. I also don't agree with people "Finding" their own cache, but thats another story. Geo Jeff (leave more than you take)
  11. I am a current Mapsource, Garmin user, but am considering the Sportrak Pro. I can't tell which map I should get with it. I wish Magellan had an on-line map viewer, like Garmin so one could compare. My questions are 1. Does the MapSend TOPO have a complete set of streets? 2. Does MapSend Streets & Destinations contain hiking trails? Thanks, Geo Jeff (leave more than you take)
  12. For what it is worth. I ordered a memory card and a handlebar mount ~6 months ago and had good luck with planetgps.net Geo Jeff (leave more than you take)
  13. I recommend against the Magellan 310. The main problem being it only displays coordinates to 2 digits past the decimal. So when looking for N 37° 34.958 W 118° 59.258 you could only enter N 37° 34.96 W 118° 59.26. The Magellan 315/320 both display the full 3 digits that everyone uses in geocaching. 14. I just hate owners that put in worthless cheats like "it is best to park in the upper lot". Cheats are needed because caches don't stay forever. If a cache is gone and you are looking for an hour it gets pretty hard to "tread lightly" as you start thinking "well I guess they COULD have hidden it up that cliff". 15. I found my first one last week and really wanted to keep it, but since it was numbered and traveling I sent it along. Geo Jeff (leave more than you take)
  16. Thanks for the replies, you guys are great. Geo Jeff
  17. I am thinking of buying a Garmin GPS V and have two specific questions on how it works. 1. When looking at a map page can you have a pointer showing the direction to the geocache or do you have to go to the compass screen (without a map) to see a pointer. And does this change if auto routing or not? 2. Can it show the numerical compass direction to the cache or just N, NE, E, SE etc? TIA, Geo Jeff
