MtnHermit
Garmin eTrex Vista HCx on sale!, Wal-Mart has it for $170 Closeout Price!!! This helps to convince me that Garmin will announce a replacement for the Vista at CES 2009. We'll know a couple more weeks. Quote Link to comment
ZeMartelo
That is a killer price. Anyone knows what could the Garmin come up with for replacement? I decided to wait until the spring as the winter slowly settles in and keeps me home. This way I can wait for even more price drops or better technology at a great price. Quote Link to comment
user2600844
You can get one for $136.30 here: http://www.techforless.com/cgi-bin/tech4le...=20081221020700 Quote Link to comment
+allory
This link is actually to an original grey-scale Vista. $136 isn't really a bargain for that model. Quote Link to comment
ubern000b
Well, the Source in Canada (Radio Shack) dumped Venture cx's for $80Us last month. I know it's not a current high-end unit but maybe Wal-mart dumping Vistas is an INVENTORY issue. ANother poster, in another thread, linked to an excellent article that stated Garmin is way over optimal inventory levels on all lines. I expected price cuts across the board to move the levels down. This is, guessing here, one of those cuts to drop channel levels. Right now I'm not so sure it's a price cut that signifies EOL for the Vista series. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Vista Hcx become the entry level etrex in the not too distant future and be kept on for many years like the monochrome etrex has been. Just guessing on my part. But at some point Garmin will ditch the monos for good (if they haven't done so already) and trim the etrex line to 1 or 2 units instead of the (I've lost count) number they have now. It just makes business sense when there's only, what, $50 now at retail between the Top of line etrex and the entry level model? Quote Link to comment

Well now its out of stock and back up to $225 so I guess the inventory is down. Will I be kicking myself for not buying it at $165 Quote Link to comment
+user13371
... its out of stock and back up to $225 so I guess the inventory is down. Will I be kicking myself for not buying it at $165 Nah. Sales come and go... there's hardly ever such a thing as a "last chance" to buy at a good price. Amazon has it at $190: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000PDR1LS/qid=1230041941 Froogle shows a few vendors having it for less, but not sure how current they are (still showing WalMart at $165) or if I'd trust some of the lowest priced vendors. steelsun
All the Wally Worlds in Houston were out of stock when I searched yesterday too. SO no $165 unit for me. Quote Link to comment

+vwaldoguy
You can still get it Amazon for $189 with free super saver shipping though. You won't get it by Christmas, but you'd still get it for a good price. Quote Link to comment
K-9Patrol
I missed the Wal-mart deal. Plus, Target had it at the same low price yesterday and I didn't order. They're now showing it "out of stock". I don't know what kind of game the stores are playing, but it sure isn't funny. Next one I see at this price, I'm ordering without hesitation. +redhawk44p
I got the Wal Mart Vista for $165.00. I sold my last Vista to get the Oregon 400T and regretted it. The Oregon is a great unit but the little Vista is a more reliable solidly dependable unit. Quote Link to comment
