+The Blind Acorn
Here's a link to photos from my cache formerly known as Bear Crossing (GCVQKY). It was caught up in a forest fire earlier this year. GCVQKY - Bear Crossing photos... It's pretty interesting how some stuff is identifiable while other stuff isn't... And this is a link to some photos of the fire (other side of the ridge from where my cache was) Green Ridge Mountain aka Loch Haven Fire Edited April 5, 2008 by The Blind Acorn Quote Link to comment
majormajor42
sad...but kinda cool! thank you for the neat pictures. There was plenty of talk of this type of thing after last years San Diego fires too. Quote Link to comment
+Team LaLonde
I feel for ya. We adopted a site where one was lost to a fire, but not the way you mean. It was found by muggles and the contents were used to start a campfire. At least no cachers were injured as a result the fire that destroyed your area! Quote Link to comment
+Miragee
Yup, we had a huge firestorm here last fall that destroyed hundreds of homes, including that of some local cachers. The fire also scorched many, many caches. Here are a few pictures of caches (some mine, others not mine) I found shortly after the fires: Inside the "cammo" of an old rusty can was a plastic pill bottle . . . This had been a plastic tool box . . . it was hidden in some rocks, in an east-facing direction, so it got the brunt of the flames that were fanned by 50 mph Santa Ana winds. That is what happens to a magnetic keyholder in high heat . . . The pencil lead is the only thing that survived inside an M & M's tube . . . All the contents in the ammo can pictured, were damaged, except the logbook, which was inside a tin container inside the ammo can. Two ammo cans I had hidden in rockpiles survived without any damage. +Mule Ears
This was all that remained of my glass-jar cache on the summit of Mount Fagan after a brushfire swept through: Bad luck: The fire line ended just 20 feet beyond the cache. Quote Link to comment

+CSpenceFLY
I found one here in Georgia that went through a controlled burn. I was able to retrieve a geocoin from it. Quote Link to comment
+ThePetersTrio
I found one here in Georgia that went through a controlled burn. I was able to retrieve a geocoin from it. Do you have a picture? I'd like to see what that coin looked like after that. I've had a cache loss but not to fire. These pictures are pretty amazing....and sad. Quote Link to comment
O-Mega
I recently replaced the container of a final of our clubs Multi for a fellow cacher, here is what was left: It is strange what survives and what doesn't. Quote Link to comment
+steel city babes
I actually found one yesterday after a burn out at Jordan Lake State Forest. Some of my pix are in my log. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...0e-6ec1ca46dacc I removed the remains (to be given to the owner)and replenished the cache and left it there.... +StarBrand
Lost one to some weed control burning. It was a plastic lock-n-lock. Nothing left but a small pile of melted goo. Quote Link to comment
