+luckybobb
I purchased and in stalled Metrogold that is supposed to make my metroguide maps autorouteable. When I use metroguide to send the maps to my legend CX they are not autorouting. Has anyone experienced this problem and was wondering how to fix it. Thanks Quote Link to comment
+Dolphinjon
After installing Metroguide on your computer, did you run Metrogold and click Upgrade Now? If not, the autorouting was not added to Metroguide. I just did this on Thursday and it worked quite well. Hope this helps Jonathan Quote Link to comment
+luckybobb
Didn't realise I had to do anything after installing it. Thanks for the help. Works great now Quote Link to comment

+drshughes
Metroguide and Metrogold are working great on my Vista HCx. I had Topo 2008 on there already, but now the topo maps seem to have gone away, and I can't find them in the map setup screen. Any ideas on that??? Quote Link to comment
+Miragee
You have to send the MetroGuide and Topo maps to the GPS unit at the same time. When you send one mapset it erases the previous maps on the unit . . . Quote Link to comment
+jotne
Just some information about MetroGold This software goes into same category as key generators. You can not modify any Garmin software. LICENSE AGREEMENT FOR GARMIN SOFTWARE ==================================================== 3. LICENSE RESTRICTIONS: (a) You have no rights with respect to the Software or any portion thereof and shall not use the Software or any portion thereof except as expressly set forth herein. yogazoo
Why doesn't Garmin go after the MetroGold people? After all, they're the ones making money off of their products. (edited to add: As far as I know, there is no pending litigation.) And, under the quoted software license section, all of us custom mappers who integrate our custom made maps into MapSource are all criminals. Right? Thats the line were drawing here? Hmmm. One of the reasons many of my friends (not me of course, I have "morals" ) choose to buy Garmin is because of the ability to make your own maps and load them onto your unit along with other Garmin products. Under the premise that modifying, altering, changing, or otherwise supplimenting Garmins software in any way is criminal, the moderators may want to remove all the postings of these illegal custom maps that everyone loads into MapSource. My point is that MetroGold may not be entirely ethical, but there seems to be at least SOME gray area with regards to the quoted verbage of the license. Maybe there isn't. Maybe us custom mappers are all dirty law breakers. Edited April 25, 2008 by yogazoo Quote Link to comment

I'm quite sure THAT is why Garmin has never tried to stop the custom map people. The reality is that it helps their hardware sales. I'm sure they make very little from mapping, with most of the money going to the data suppliers. Quote Link to comment
+hogrod
You can not modify any Garmin software. [emphasis added] I think this is really a non-issue because once metrowizzz and metrogold came out garmin stopped releasing new versions of metroguide. There has been 2 newer versions of maps since V8 of metroguide came out, so if you are planning on using this software you are also using outdated maps. Quote Link to comment

(edited to add: As far as I know, there is no pending litigation.) MetroGold costs $6, and they offer MetroWhizz, a free version of MetroGold. Plus, the program is designed for MetroGuide v.7, but, admittingly, it works on other verstions. So, their profit cannot be that much. Quote Link to comment

Which has got to be even more galling to Garmin than if they were selling it for $50. Can you imagine it? You sell a product, and then someone comes along and doesn't just take it, they basically give your product away to other people! If someone was stealing from you, wouldn't it gripe you if they were just giving your stuff away? Quote Link to comment

They offering a program to be used on your copy of MetroGuide. Quote Link to comment

The difference in price between Metroguide and City Navigator all goes to NavTech, I'm sure. Quote Link to comment
+jotne
So now when there several types of keygens on the net to make keys for all Garmin maps, I do guess that Garmin will change the way they do lock the maps. Just try Google and search. Since Keygen was on the net public some month ago, Garmin looses big chunk of money and have to do something. So why pay for MetroGold when keygen are free? I think that if Garmin had not been so strict with maps, going from two keys to one for payed DVD and not giving DVD to user with preinstalled, this may not have happend.
