Keystone
The OP's profile suggests that Texas is the state we are talking about in this thread. Hopefully someone from Texas can provide an answer that's more helpful than some of the replies to date. The OP may also wish to check in the Texas Geocaching Association forums. Policies and procedures vary from state to state. Some state park systems don't have any formal permission policy, some have a published policy requiring permission, but there's no paperwork, others have detailed permit applications to fill out and rules to follow, and a few ban geocaching altogether or impose conditions tantamount to a ban. +mommio
"visit with the park or historic site superintendent and discuss the location where you intend to place the cache. Some parks or historic sites may be entirely off-limits to geocaching due to the sensitive resources contained within the sites. The superintendent may limit placement of caches in some areas due to archeological or historical resources, endangered species or concerns for visitor safety. If the placement is approved, obtain a copy of a geocache permit in order to complete the contact and placement information." This a quote from the Texas Parks and Wildlife site. At the San Angelo SP they maintain a list of the approved caches at the gate. Quote Link to comment

Here in NC you are required to "purchase" a permit, let the rangers know the location and repay I believe yearly for each cache. Forms provided free of charge by the taxpayers. Quote Link to comment
+Trucker Lee
I know of no policy covering all the state parks, and in that there is such a wide variance in terrain, foliage, and the way in which they must be managed, I can't see that happening. It is most likely up to the individual park manager. You can link to each park from the Texas Parks and Wildlife main web site. Quote Link to comment

Texas State Parks do require permission and do require the hider to fill out a permit for the hide. Ask at the park headquarters and most likely you'll be greeted with a smile and maybe even an offer of help! Edited February 17, 2008 by Mudfrog Quote Link to comment
