+Simply Paul Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 (edited) Frisbee Golf in the Park (Aylesbury, Bucks) - From 12pm, November 17th 2007. Just a note to let people know I'm holding the above event at the above time and date. November is a bit out of the sport's summer season, but I hope the weather will be kind- November was also event-free so I thought I'd add something to the late-autumn calendar. If you're not familiar with Frisbee Golf (also known as Disc Golf) it's played with a frisbee rather than a ball, with the aim of hitting a distant target. Google can help you if you'd like more info, but that's basically it. Hope to see you there. Bring your own Frisbee! Edit to change time from 2pm to noon (limited daylight!) and add an informative picture: Edited September 20, 2007 by Simply Paul Quote
+Bambography Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 I have an Airobee, would that be cheating? Quote
+Simply Paul Posted September 20, 2007 Author Posted September 20, 2007 It's not all about how far it goes, it's also about the accuracy... I'm happy to have Airobees along. You might have to take ten steps back from the tee though... Quote
+rutson Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 As some of you know, frisbees at events can be dangerous ;-) Quote
markandlynn Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Last ime Aaron threw a frisbee we all got injured, see you on the 17th and yes we do have a frisbee just got to lever it out of the fence post its stuck in Quote
+housefamily Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 (edited) As some of you know, frisbees at events can be dangerous ;-) Eh? Did somebody say my name? I just noticed they do a smiley especially for Ian just after he's been hit by the frisbee... Edited September 20, 2007 by housefamily Quote
+ParRathorne Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 I here Lactodorum plays golf? Maybe he'll make an appearance and show us how it is done? K Quote

+Simply Paul Posted September 20, 2007 Author Posted September 20, 2007 Link to YouTube, and the bit of 'Robbie Coltrane's B-Road Britain' where I first heard about the sport/game/odd pasttime Quote
+Bambography Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Link to YouTube, and the bit of 'Robbie Coltrane's B-Road Britain' where I first heard about the sport/game/odd pasttime Urm, hoping we're not going to be expected to throw them that far!!! Thats all quite impressive! Quote
+Dobunnis Posted September 20, 2007 Posted September 20, 2007 Ah... Frisbee Golf. I did a few rounds while at Essex University. I think it is probably one of the oldest courses in the country (set out in 1983) and it even hosted the 1994 World Championships. I am rubbish at it though so I doubt we will be coming along but you never know... Helen Quote
+Sensei TSKC Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 I'll be there and what a coincidence, the following article is the venue of a cache I'd been talking about yesterday albeit did it about a year ago. Quote
+Lotho Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 Thats definetly the most unique caching event ive heard of! Quote
+McDeHack Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 SP. Will there be proper baskets, and will the course be like the one that I played last week at the Colchester Uni? Like you I got interested by seeing that Robbie Coltrane prog. I have a set of disks but at the moment can't throw then like the youngster do. Quote
Lactodorum Posted September 21, 2007 Posted September 21, 2007 I here Lactodorum plays golf? Maybe he'll make an appearance and show us how it is done? K I try However my frisbee throwing is even more wayward than my golf shots, and that's saying something Quote
+Simply Paul Posted September 21, 2007 Author Posted September 21, 2007 SP. Will there be proper baskets, and will the course be like the one that I played last week at the Colchester Uni?I wish. No, there will be bamboo targets of various sorts though, and I'm working on ways of adding as much interest and variety as I can. Quote
markandlynn Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 I bumped into this while researching these techniques Quote
+kennamatic Posted September 29, 2007 Posted September 29, 2007 I've wanted to try this for ages. If I don't have anything on that day I'll definitely try to be there. Quote
+Mr'D Posted October 2, 2007 Posted October 2, 2007 SP... I think this looks very juvenile! I'll be there Quote
+Simply Paul Posted November 6, 2007 Author Posted November 6, 2007 It's later this month, so it's time for a bump Quote
+Bambography Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Sadly I can't make this now due to 'family commitments'. Hopefully it will be a success and i'll b able to make repeat events in the future. Have fun all! Quote
+microphonemark Posted November 7, 2007 Posted November 7, 2007 Sadly, as this event is in the sunny south and I'm in the cold, cold north, I won't be there. May I suggest a good game of "Ultimate Frisbee" as a wind down after the event? You might have to Google that one, I believe it's an American sport. It's not as rough as it looks, last time I played we didn't even have any major injuries! Quote
+Simply Paul Posted November 7, 2007 Author Posted November 7, 2007 Ultimate (sport) on Wikipedia Quote
+lathama Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 I am planning to be there (as part of my weekend of events by public transport) Starting in Bristol on Friday night and ending at dewsbury on sunday. 3 events in a weekend all on public transport. Is this a record?! Quote
+Simply Paul Posted November 12, 2007 Author Posted November 12, 2007 The weather report for Saturday isn't looking too great, so I reserve the right to reduce the course to 9 'holes' so people aren't in the wind and rain too long. Fingers crossed Quote
+kennamatic Posted November 12, 2007 Posted November 12, 2007 I've got to cry off as well. Bottoms! I was looking forward to this. Hope everyone has a good time even if it does blow up a storm. Quote
+Simply Paul Posted November 16, 2007 Author Posted November 16, 2007 The BBC are now saying sun, 8 deg. C and an 8mph wind. Perfect Folf weather! Just rap up warm if you're coming. Quote
markandlynn Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 I've got to cry off as well. Bottoms! I was looking forward to this. Hope everyone has a good time even if it does blow up a storm. Ditto guess its a no event year for us then Quote
+Simply Paul Posted November 17, 2007 Author Posted November 17, 2007 Thanks very much to everyone who came to a random park on a cool day. I think everyone enjoyed this slightly different event and very different sport. I'm tempted to have another one in the summer because I enjoyed it too Sorry to those who didn't make it. Hopefully you'll be available for the next one, if I (or someone else) 'holeds' one Quote
