My wife and I hid a cache (in Julian) on Sunday (while staying in a B&. On our way out of Julian, on Tuesday, we stopped by the new (unlisted) cache to drop off a better log... when I puled out the old log...it had "The Glamis Bandits!" on it dated Sunday the 15th. Now I am wondering if they are watching me or if they have supper powers Regardless You guys rock and I look forward to the rest of the story Quote Link to comment

Robyn of Team Reid Ok, so its none of my business 'cause I don't own a Jeep but a word of caution to the wise, be careful who you hang out with. Just ask yourself, why would Robyn need new fenders? ... hmm? ... and another good reason to watch out for the zany San Diego Jeep people. Yep, you guessed it, of course that's Robyn at the top of the stack. Just remember, I told y' so. Edited April 26, 2007 by SD Rowdies Quote Link to comment
+TrailGators
OK all you Jeep experts. I've been toying with the idea of getting an old Jeep so I can join you guys and not rip up my Durango. I wouldn't care what I did to an old Jeep (within reason). Anyhow, there is a old Jeep is for sale in Escondido: It is a 1985 with 1500 miles on a new rebuilt engine. It has a 6 cylinder with a 5 speed. It looks like it has 33" tires with a 2-3" lift. It has front and rear lockers, body underarmor, and a winch. They pulled it up to the Dakotas with their Motorhome. They are a retired couple and the wife can't get into it anymore so they want to sell it. They are asking 10k. What do you think? Edited April 26, 2007 by TrailGators Quote Link to comment

IMO Gene I'm going to ride with me in it silly. BUt seriously, I'll use it to drive to work and then for fun. We have other vehicles to handle multiple people transporting. Ruscal mentioned that the Jeep made after 1997 have coil springs and ride a lot better. He also said I should check the gear ratio to make sure it's at at least 4.11. He said something abot checking how they did the lift, but that part lost me a bit. This one looks like it would capable of doing Moab. That would be cool! Quote Link to comment
+DaMoores
Sillly me I was think'n more like kids'n wife. As Ruscal said. I like my 98. I'm not a fan working on cars anymore. I'm into maintance and not much more. It all depends how much rock crawling you want to get into. Stock with minor upgrades will do most of Moab. Quote Link to comment

I would hate to be left behind when those guys do the "pucker factor" runs. We had some preety capable Jeeps that had about all they could handle. Of course we were doing the 3rd most difficult trail at the time. Quote Link to comment

+Glamis Bandits
10K sounds a little on the high side. Is it smoged? Does in go stratght when you let go of the steering wheel? The old leaf spring Jeeps tend to ride rough. I had a 1966 CJ5, it was alot of fun on the trail, but it sucked to drive on the freeway. Quote Link to comment

Hey Pat- Glad to see that you are thinking of a Jeep. Did Rocketman's first Moab trip psych you out in the Mrs. 4x4? Plus, they're called beauty marks, not scrapes. I'd stick to round headlights ('97 and newer) for the reason that Glamis Bandits stated. It's nice that you work close to home, but driving it is a chore. Remember the ride to Tomb Raider in my Jeep? I like it rough and bumpy, so no biggie for me. Another thing to think about is EFI or Carb? My husband's Jeep is an '86 CJ7 that he put EFI on. He trailers it wherever we go, no exceptions. It's a monster to drive. Are you planning on rock crawling or just cruisin'? IMHO, lockers and a winch are definitely nice, but not necessary for just toodling. Good luck and I can't wait to see what you end up with! Robyn Quote Link to comment
+Team Reid
Crud, of course I think of something else to say immediately after I hit the reply button.... Smogging the '86 Jeep sucks! Always big bucks and a pain in the behind! Robyn Quote Link to comment

The forecast is for 98/62 deg, a bit on the warm side but there aren't too many weekends left and I don't want to miss any. I'll watch this board for the next group run.
