  1. Congratulations dougandsuzy on hitting the big "2 0 0 0" this past weekend. Way to go!!!
  2. How well placed are the other caches? Will we need a possible lifeline on any?
  3. There's not a set schedule. A group of us decided just to head up. Have a good weekend in the desert. I hear it's a very big event.
  4. Ya, I saw that too. I ran into the same problem back in January when I went up with a group from work. I call last Friday and the roads are open. Guess updating the site isn't a top priority. Thanks.
  5. A group of us are planning a caching trip up the back side of Palomar Mt. via the Palomar Divide Truck Trail (GCQ1AF) this Saturday (3/7). It's basicly a long fire road with some great views of Warner Spring and the area north east of the mountain. There over 25+ caches along the route. Plan is to meet in Oceanside and head out by 7am, head north to Temecula (GC1G5B7) , then start caching east on Hwy 79 to the top of the mountain. Should be a lot of fun. Interested?? Come and join us.
  6. I know several of you in the forum have cached the Palomar Divide Truck trail so I wanted to share a couple of snap shots from this past weekend when I tagged along with some Muggle Jeepers from work. As it turned out, no one had been through the area so we attempted to blaze a trail through the 2-3ft of fresh power but it was to much and a couple of vehicles needed to be pulled out. Should be a nice trail to run in a couple of weeks if the snow melts down enough to get to the top. Hope to make the complete trip with some fellow geocachers who want to stop for Tupperware in the woods. Trail??? What Trail?? Toyotas in the back.....
  7. Checked Weather.com, looks like the rain possible (30% chance) Saturday. Partly cloudy Sunday. I hope it stays that way. With no interest, we'll have to re-schedule to a later date. Bummer

  9. I'd love to join you Boomer, but I'll be up in LA for my youngest son's volleyball tournament. He's off to college next year, so our days are numbered. Anyhow, have fun! I know what you mean. My daughter went off to college last year and she plays water polo. Now we have to plan trips from Northern Cal out to AZ from Feb. to April. It was so nice in High School and you were playing just down the road. I think it's going to rain on our parade Sunday so you may not be missing much. See you on the trail.
  10. A group of us from the North County are planning a trip down to Mission Trail Regional Park (MTRP) this coming Sunday. We'll be meeting at the equestrian center parking lot at 8am when it opens, then we plan to cache the north side of the Hwy 52. We’re crossing our fingers that the rain doesn’t come in until Sunday night so we don’t have to cancel our trip. Come on out and join us.
  11. dadgum it!!! Another one I wanted to visit. Gone!! Guess the ABDSP has some deep pockets and doesn't need visitors. I feel bad for the folks in town that are supported, even if it a small amount, by the money we put into the economy when we're out there. I'd also like to encourage all my fellow federal employees and those proudly serving in the Armed Forces to refrain from selecting the Anza Borrego Foundation during the CFC Open Season. Why should they get one penny of the $270,000,000+ in charitable donation we contribute?
  12. Actually they do. Click on "My Controls" on the top right. Then click on "Manage Ignored Users" towards the bottom of the left side. I think it's time to use it again.... Thanks for the tip on this one. Always nice to rid yourself a constant annoyance. I have just exercised my control. Thank you as well. It was getting old.
  13. My two cents - I think Pirate caches can only hurt our chances of any type of diplomacy with ABDSP staff. It's one thing to organize, protest and writes letters. It's another to out right break the rules. In the end, it's harder to do the right thing.
  14. That's what the website says you can do. We're still pondering that option. Two of us in the my group are getting a bug that's going around at work. Looks like we're going to drop Pushawalla to keep everyone healthy. I will call in the morning tomorrow to BLM, if I remember, and get the scoop from them. I don't mind paying for a camp, but just kinda prefer to rough-it. Also looks like I might join you guys on Sunday night in the Wiley area at the north end for the drive on Bradshaw Trail Monday morning, then I will camp Monday night somewhere near the south end and do the other caches I have planned on Tuesday. We should be getting there on Sunday night shortly after nightfall. With the Pushawalla out and camping an issue, my group is meeting tomorrow to finalize our plans.

  16. Are you doing it as a day trip or stay overnight? I'll be camping at Coon Hollow (N33 26.876, W 114 54.072), near the intersection of Wiley's Well Road and the Bradshaw Trail from Friday through Sunday morning. On Sunday morning, I'll be heading back to San Diego via the Bradshaw Trail. Some kind folks are going to show me how be a "rock hound" this weekend out in the Hauser Geode beds and nearby areas. I'm down to only 25 hobbies right now and really need a new hobby to fill my spare time ... What is the rate to camp there? The lady at the BLM office told me today the rate at Wiley's went way up. She steared us to Corn Springs Campground. I have to call them back tomorrow so I'm going to verify the rates? I heard that the fee for Coon Hollow and Wiley's Well campgrounds is $40/week or portion thereof. Not great but not too bad compared to the $26/day fee in most state campgrounds. From what I can tell, BLM doubled it this year. I think you can also primitive camp within 600' of the trails in that area. Still checking it out myself. That area appears to be popular with the snowbird RVs. I was under the impression that you could camp anywhere on BLM land for free? Of course as long as you are within the distance from a main road and in a fairly open, non-vegetated area? Am I mistaken in this, I was planning on just pulling off the side of the trail on the nights I was going to camp and just dry-camp out there. Ya. When I first talked to the BLM and said we were staying one night, that's when she said it would be $40 for Wiley's. I placed two calls to her today to confirm the prices for all the sites but she never returned my call. Forty bucks for a place that doesn't have water, don't think so.

  19. My work seems a little unpredictable right now for the weekend. It appears that I have to be there Sunday which is right in the middle of multiple 4x4 adventures! Why! Anyway, I hope everyone has a great time. I will have to do these runs and hikes another day. I'm sure we'll cross pathes back in our own stomping grounds back in San Diego.
  20. I'm not from your area but there's a Geocaching Event this weekend out in Palm Springs that should have some geocachers from your area. I'm planning on caching/hiking/4x4 on Sunday & Monday up there. See my post listed in this group. It's titled Pushawalla & Bradshaw Trail. You're welcome to join us. Hope to see you on the trail.
  21. Sorry if I gave the wrong impression on the dates. Here how it's shaping up. Pushawalla Trail on 11th. Recommended Parking (due to vandalism) is the Visitor Center which opens at 8am - Starting then should give those of us coming up from San Diego plenty of time to get there. Lunch/Caching - Work our way over to the campgrounds. Bradshaw Trail on the 12th - If we're camped at Wiley's - We can start around 7:30am after breakfast. Any thought??
  22. Spoke to Olvgrn. He said the same thing you did, Backwards.
  23. We are planning on walking the Pushawalla Sunday Nov.11th.. Darn, your going out a week earlier then us. Let me know how it goes?
  24. Anyone else have any input on the Pushawalla and Bradshaw to share?
  25. After researching your post, this loop looks tempting too. Only I'd have to do it Sunday & Monday. Do you have anticipated beginning and end coordinates for each of the trails? I am trying to visualize the runs. TA Pushawalla (which is the Power hiking trail - 5 mi) is located across from It's well Preserved(GC109B3) @ N 33° 50.316 W 116° 18.468 - On GC.com you can see the caches - Like 30+ Bradshaw north point (off the 10) would be near Happy Meal McCache(GCE264) @ N 33° 36.657 W 114° 54.048 Bradshaw southern point (near the Salton Sea) would be near The BRADSHAW TRAIL #1(GCMDJT) @ N 33° 30.350 W 115° 45.943 Camping Sunday Night might be near The BRADSHAW TRAIL #25(GCMDMB) @ N 33° 29.449 W 114° 53.285 Zoom in on Google Earth and you'll see it (BLM's - Wiley's Well Campground) Box Canyon is a road through the area starting near Dump HERE(GC11AHE) @ N 33° 34.373 W 115° 59.816. This heads north back up to the 10 Fwy. Sorry, I'm not as savy as some of the other cachers in the forums that can put links in their post.
