Podcast Interview

While I was recently in USA I did an interview for the Cachamaniacs podcast, which has been released today. (I met Firefly03 while in Michigan last summer and we swapped stories and coins, and then recently was asked to do the interview).

 

It was actually recorded while I was in Washington DC on 4th February, hence my comments about the London caching problems.

As to some of your comments - should you ever find yourself doing some of our caches then just send a photo of where you think the cache is and I would be more than happy to sign it for you.

There has to be a way around this unless you have another alternative????

Yes Wendy - that goes for me too... take a pic and send it to me, failing that, let me know if you're ever near Chester / Wirral and I'll come along with you - I'd love to meet Caesar!

Thanks for the offers of my submitting photos, yes, sometimes, quite occasionally, I have had to submit a pic to the cache owner and ask for clemency. This doesn't always work though as at least one person has told me they think I could have gotten it anyways, even though it was quite out of the question and I almost ended up in a canal and needed rescuing!

 

That said, taking a picture isn't as satisfying as signing the log book or scrap of paper or whatever

 

I'd still really like to see people who set caches considering setting at least one wheelchair accessible cache in 2007 ... it is, after all, the European Year of Equal Opportunity for All Even as an accessible cache it can still be made tricky so everyone feels challenged completing it, and what's more, you'll get a warm fuzzy feeling knowing that you have contributed to caching for all!

Blimey - some cache owners take this thing way too seriously.

 

If you got to the cache location, knew exactly where the cache was hidden but could not get it for any reason then I'd be more than happy for anyone to log one of our caches as a find .

Fantastic interview - so good I listed to it twice After listening to all the Podcacher & Cache-a-Maniacs podcasts since they started, it makes a very refreshing change to hear a Geocaching Podcast from a UK perspective!

I fully agree with Wendy. Why shouldn't wheelchair cachers go the whole hog? As a wheelchair accessible cache setter myself I take it as a further enjoyable challenge to find a spot that is both hidden and accessible. After all any idiot can hide a cache - the skill (fun) is finding somewhere that does both.

 

Invariably it only requires us to be a bit more observant of potential obstacles to others (steps, narrow gaps, long reaches, etc.) and think "would this be accessible if I only moved it there?".

 

I'm certainly not advocating that all caches be accessible (just look at some of mine to see non-accessible ones!) but if setting a cache on a footpath, in an urban area, etc. please consider whether, with a bit of extra thought, it could be made so. After all, we all want as many visitors to our caches as possible and, dare I say it, we're all going to get older and less mobile one day!
