+Billy Twigger Posted May 29, 2006 Posted May 29, 2006 (edited) An event cache will be held on the August Bank Holiday event which will be an opportunity for friends of Bill Hemphill to remember him by climbing his favourite Scottish mountain, Schiehallion. Details here: Schiehallion Anyone who attended a caching event with Bill will recognise just how sociable he was and how much of himself he gave to others. So it’s fitting that a gathering of friends at one of Bill’s favourite places in Scotland should be a tribute to him. The plan is that we meet on the morning of Sunday 27th August (the Bank Holiday weekend) and along with Angela, climb Schiehallion, However, this date does not suit everybody who will want to pay tribute to Bill, so the cache will remain open until the end of September to allow people who want to pay tribute to Bill to do so at their own time and pace. A logbook will be placed in a nearby pub/hotel/visitor centre and presented to Angela after the event cache is closed. Accomodation and travel details and so forth will be posted shortly. There is an existing challenging cache by Snaik on Schiehallion, called Centre of Scotland I hope to have a number of new physical caches placed nearby and on the main routes to the meeting place. All suggestions welcome! Edited May 29, 2006 by Billy Twigger Quote
+Pharisee Posted May 30, 2006 Posted May 30, 2006 I'll do my best to be there..... Umm.... would that be right in the middle of 'Midge Season', then? Quote

Might want to bring your midgie net. It will probably be OK up the mountain though Sadly, Billy Twigger will be unable to attend his own event due to illness. It is, however, still going ahead on August 27th. Edited August 15, 2006 by Firth of Forth Quote
+G Force Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Might want to bring your midgie net. It will probably be OK up the mountain though I don't have a midgie net but will bug spray suffice or do I really need a net??? Still looking good for me being able to attend unless I see forecast for snow in the region. Hopefully will have my nephew from Texas with me and maybe another G Force member. Looks like I'll have plenty of company bringing up the rear for the hike as I practised that position with the Death or Glory group going up Scafell. We will be planning on camping out Friday & Saturday night but are flexible and will look at where others are staying so we can have a beer or two at night for some geocaching chat. Quote

The campsite may be a different matter Avon Skin So Soft works well - just needs reapplying at frequent intervals! Quote

+Haggis Hunter Posted August 21, 2006 Posted August 21, 2006 Just a wee reminder for those that can't make it this weekend, that the event is open for a full month. I will be taking the opportunity to use this option as I can't climb on the given date. Quote

+Firth of Forth Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 The weather forecast for Sunday is looking quite good: Southeastern Highlands Forecast Quote
+Pharisee Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 Has any decision been made about what time to meet on Sunday morning or are we all going to start up the hill whenever we arrive? Quote
+Firth of Forth Posted August 25, 2006 Posted August 25, 2006 It's all very flexible There is a crowd starting at 9.30am. There are some starting at 10.30am. And I think that there may be others starting at 11.30am (the faster ones). At any rate, the meet up afterwards is at The Fountain a few miles down the road in Aberfeldy. A print out of the spoiler photo is a must, as the terrain is a massive sea of large and smaller boulders. Quote
+Haggis Hunter Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 For those that had met Bill, this was a very touching thing to have happened, I wish I had been there. A fitting tribute near the summit when Angela scattered Bill's ashes and a complete rainbow arched across the skies. A magic moment. Bill will be long remembered. Quote
