  1. Thanks everybody for all your help - I have found the cache I wanted using gsak
  2. Thanks for replying so promptly. That's what I suspected. Is there any way to search a finder's profile for a specific cache then or would you have to trawl through all of their finds to track it down?
  3. Is there a way of finding an archived cache if all I know is the name of the cache? Trying to find one that I know the name of but not the GC code or the cache owner. Thanks in advance for any help with this.
  4. Visited a drive by cache today in the Scottish Borders which had three metal trackable tags in it, two of which had a single hole punched in it, and the other one had two holes punched in it. I couldn't work out what was going on so I took all three to try and figure it out afterwards. Have just checked the trackable history and all three appear to have last been seen in summer 2010, all in South East England , with two of them now marked as having been missing since 2011. I am going to contact the owners (whatever items they attached to these are long gone) to let them know that their tags have turned up but I am still perplexed as to what's going on and why these vandalised tags have all ended up in a cache in the Borders. Sabotage I guess but why and by whom?
  5. I can't log into my account on the laptop. Well I can but as soon as I try to move to another page it kicks me out and asks me to log in again. Anyone having similar problems? It's all working fine on my smartphone.
  6. I was sure that you used to be able to search for a keyword within a cache title e.g. if the cache was called "Would You Adam And Eve It?", you could put in "Adam" and it would find all the caches with "Adam" anywhere within the cache name. It seems now though that it will only find those caches which start with the word "Adam"? Under 'Seek a cache' there is the section for 'Cache starts with' - which is no use for what I am trying to do, so I then went into the advanced search options which does have a keyword search but then when you look at what this search does it says "Enter a keyword to search for a geocache beginning with that word or phrase". So that's the same as the 'Cache starts with' option in the un-advanced search options is it not? Is it not now possible to look for a keyword within a cache name? Is it just the first word in the cache name that we can search for?
  7. I went out caching with marmal one day in Fife and he got about 104 or something like that (was definitely over 100) between about 6.30am and 11.30pm. I'd done a few of them before so my total for the day was about 75-ish I think. But it was a very intense day - I felt shattered by early afternoon - have no idea how I kept going for hours after that! Made me admire from afar those people who regularly go out over a weekend and bag 70-80 caches over a couple of days because to do those sorts of numbers on a routine basis requires a real commitment.
  8. Add three of us to the list if it's within Scottish school holiday dates (differs between regions but anything between end of first week of July and beginning of third week of August should be Ok)
  9. Sorry, been a long time since I've used these forums - who has the highest number of finds of any UK cacher at the moment? And is there a site that ranks UK cachers by finds?
  10. But....what about anyone who comes here on holiday and who might want to do some interesting caches? Finds always tail off after the locals do them but I for one appreciate having the choice of doing some decent caches if I am visiting a new area - and not just caches and dashes.
  11. Hadn't read this thread for a few days so am a bit unsure if it's wise to post anything more on here but I just wanted to share something that though not directly related to geocaching, might be of relevance with regard to how the Greenwich Park folks are dealing with things being placed in the park by the public. I was reading an article in last Sunday's Observer about "ghost bikes" - white bicycles which are placed as memorials to cyclists who have been killed on the roads. I was interested to read that there had been one in Greenwich Park but it was taken away after a few weeks following discussions with the Royal Parks. Link is here: http://www.guardian.co.uk/artanddesign/2008/oct/05/art Paragraph 5 of the main article
  12. I have just started experimenting with pocket queries too, and I had the same problem at the weekend. I found that I had to put in either a waypoint code or co-ordinates before I got a list of results. Trying it on the home co-ordinates option or postcode brought up no results
  13. Very sad to hear this. I used to live in London and visiting Greenwich Park was always a delight. Then I moved away and hadn't been to it for 13 years - until I returned to London last November and made sure that I came back - no least because it had the added attraction of now having caches within it! The park was just as wonderful as I remembered, and even more so because it had caches to be found inside it! How will I feel next time I am down in London though? I will no doubt look elsewhere for my Sunday walk because even though I love Greenwich Park, there are other spots I like almost as much but which also have active caches within them.....
  14. I think this is a really special and unique place, and I think it would be amazing to stay here: http://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/airt...pple/index.html The only thing is that although it is near Stirling, it isn’t on the Trossachs side - it’s on the other (eastern) side. The company that you book it from seems to be so posh that it appears you have to buy a brochure before you can book it: http://www.landmarktrust.org.uk/ I did find a short article written by someone who had stayed there - not particularly informative but gives a general idea of what it might be like http://www.mylandmarks.me.uk/html/pineapple.html Oh, and BTW there is a cache (one of mine) in the grounds!
  15. From my limited experience I would absolutely agree with you. My son owned two coins and one TB and all of them disappeared almost as soon as they went abroad. The first coin we actually released in Spain and I think it visited only one or two caches before it went AWOL. The second coin I released in Scotland but it's mission was to go to Germany and roolku happened to pick it up from that initial cache and took it to straight to Germany for us - unfortunately it went missing almost immediately from the cache he put it in over there. The TB was perhaps a different matter - it had visited three or so caches in the UK before being taken to Turkey and last I heard the cache it had been placed in was found burnt beyond recognition. People talk about enjoying seeing where their trackables have visited - well that's pants in my sons case as he has been lucky to have a trackable last more than about four cache moves! Just to add also - when I went to Spain a couple of years ago I mistakenly dropped off someone elses geocoin there which actually wanted to stay in the Uk. I wrote a note about it on the gecoin log and put it on my watch list to keep an eye on it, but, as far as I know, that only lasted in Spain for a short while too before it went missing. All of this has made me really cynical about releasing trackables anywhere. I have been lucky enough to have been given some geocoins as gifts by several people and I have no intention of ever releasing them as I don't want them to go missing.
  16. Must be a teacher thing because I am the same! I am not paperless yet either and I do the same thing - read it online, click links, check photos, read past logs if necessary. I also make a note of any recommended eating places, cafes, pubs from the logs - and we sometimes plan to go there and have lunch or coffee before/after doing the cache. This has been especially useful if we are travelling somewhere, or spending time in a new area when on holiday etc. Also sometimes the cache descriptions tell you about other things to look out for on your way to the cache or nearby - and that's good too.
  17. Guess I don't need to reply to the email now then? Yours, The Cache Owner!
  18. A log came through for one of my caches about an hour ago - it said it was their first geocache thanks to the Sunday Times!
  19. Last year, I won a green Etrex Venture but it broke after about six weeks worth of weekend geocaching use. Specifically I would switch it on but then it would automatically switch itself off after about 10seconds. I sent it back to Garmin who replaced it with a brand new one (can't fault their after sales service!). This one has worked fine for about six months now but today it started to do the same as the first one had - switching itself off after 10 seconds or so. It seems a bit odd to me that I now have had two GPSrs do this - I wonder if anyone else has experienced anything similar with this make/model? In the meantime I have gone back to using my yellow Etrex - which I bought new in Spring 2004 and which has never let me down (fingers crossed, knock on wood etc!)
  20. Thanks for all the prompt replies - thought it might just have been me. I'll see if it lets me on later.
  21. For some reason I seem to be blocked from this site? I get this message: You are not authorized to view this page The Web server you are attempting to reach has a list of IP addresses that are not allowed to access the Web site, and the IP address of your browsing computer is on this list. Anyone know why I might be getting this message?
  22. This was exactly the kind of thing I was thinking about - looks like it would have been really good fun - what a shame that it was never finished and that they are now archived anyway. I was just asking out of interest really - it seemed such an obvious thing to base a cache series around yet a quick search (for caches around the Strand area!) revealed nothing as far as Monopoly was concerned. Maybe someone will resurrect it? If only I lived in London then I would do you all a Monopoly multicache series....
  23. There's been stuff on the news today about this new Monopoly Board which encompasses cities over the entire country, and I see there has already been a cache set in connection to this. However, I wanted to know, just for curiosity, whether there had ever been, or if anyone had ever thought about doing, a London cache series based on the traditional Monopoly locations?
  24. Oh yeah, forgot about that as well! Got a couple of ones close to home that I've put off doing until the temperature gets lower and the ticks disappear. So....winter caching is a good thing!
