It seems to me that around pi% of active UK cachers are active in the forums, we'll never know how many lurk, but at a guess and from previous studies, probably another 2pi%. So probably less than 10%. These forums are a great resource for UK cachers providing a mean to spread useful information.

Also, I wonder how many cachers are aware of the GAGB, geochat, GC:UK etc.

How's about we have a TB race? Get some artisiticly gifted person to design a laminate tag to attach to a TB with the above information. I was thinking maybe a target of visiting as many UK counties as possible in say 12 months, and getting them out there?

Ideas on a postcard please......

I dare say that as caches are read about and then logged on the web, that cachers are a more internet aware bunch than many other interest groups. However, perhaps people dont frequent the forums because they either dont have the time, dont find anything of interest or else know that contained therin is the path to damnation and madness

It wont do any harm. I did a COTM bug but it went AWOL :)

I also put information in my profile about the forums etc. I really enjoy the community spirit here and would like to see it grow.

Sounds like a good idea, the forum is a great place for help, advice and general caching info.

When you suggest a TB race, are you thinking of just one TB to see how many counties in say 12 months, or numerous TBs and see who's gets the most ?

If it's the former, you can count on me to keep an eye out for it in my county and be ready to move it swiftly on if it gets stuck. (Maybe a request for active forum members not to pick it up (only "discover" it ??), therefore hopefully ensuring it's only moved by inactive or non forum cachers.

If it's the latter, count me in for releasing a TB.

I think the tag should have the normal Groundspeak geocaching info, together with the objective (ofcourse !!) and some sort of short, but sweet, forum review.

Maybe, part of the logging process of the (or any) TB(s) in the race should be to include a post on the "TB UK Counties Race" thread ??

Perhaps we could put a standard form of words and handy linky on our cache pages?

A lot of Irish cachers that are involved with Geocaching Ireland have been putting a graphical link to the Irish forum on their cache pages. It seems to work quite well at pointing foreign and new cachers in our direction. You can look at any of mine for the link we use.
