Some reference points, please? Are you asking for a reference to the "send to phone" link? Look on a cache page, under the bookmark listing link. A "Trimble phone" is a GPS-enabled cellphone available from Trimble Outdoors. Link to comment

+darus67
Trimble doesn't sell phones. They sell an application for nextel, Sprint, & Boost Mobile phones that allows you to use the phone as a GPSr. I've played with the Silver version of their software on a Boost Mobile pre-paid phone. I even got my first FTF with it. Link to comment
+cache_test_dummies
Ah. Thanks for the clarification, darus67. Link to comment
Jeremy
You can get a Boost GPS enabled cell phone for $45 at Best Buy. I expect that the more GPS is integrated in the bigger services like Verizon and Cingular you'll see more people geocaching with them. Link to comment
+darus67
Too bad you can't send waypoints to the phone via text message and have the GPS application read 'em in. Incoming text messages are free on Boost Mobile Link to comment

+spyder8
Just discovered the new "send to phone" capability. I have a Nextel i860 camera phone, with the Trimble Outdoors GPS application, along with the Trimble Outdoors PC software - called Planner. yup - just tried it - click on the "send to phone" icon, enter my Trimble ID & password, and the cache coords get sent to my phone and entered as a "trip". Then, on my phone, using the phone's Trimble GPS application, I download the "trip", which is a single cache location, and then I have a nice list of the cache name & coords. FYI - here is an example of a normal "trip" on the Trimble website - http://www.trimbleoutdoors.com/ViewTrip.as...ode=TripDetails There is also a PC application (prior to the "send to phone" option) where you can layout a trip or waypoints, and then upload/download to your GPS, or upload/download to your Nextel GPS phone (running Trimble software). That is how I usually handle these elements... photos, text, audio, etc. Link to comment

+spyder8
hmmm - After picking a couple of newly listed local area caches, I just tried the "send to phone" while running some errands. It does nicely download each cache to the phone as a trip, with the GCxxxx type name and the text description. So, that's all fine and good. BUT - as soon as I went to the GPS phone nav screen where it shows all the waypoints near you, BAM - it dawned on me... there is a serious logic flaw !! EACH cache (waypoint) is downloaded as a single waypoint in a unique TRIP. Therefore, if you download several caches within an area, you can only see ONE at a time on the screen. Normally, you would use the Trimble Planner to collect all the info, and then download everything to your phone as a single trip. However, when attemtping to perform the same task from GC.com, there is really no way to collect all the caches/waypoints you want, and then download or somehow "merge" them into a new or existing Trip. (This may not be technically possible by Trimble, as everything on the phone is geared to having all the info inside the "Trip"). It's the difference between downloading a single cache entry vs pocket query. So, it seems like a great idea, but having to go to the GPS Settings page and swap Trips by selecting a different Trip to see each cache made it impossible to navigate to the closest cache location.... Unless I'm missing some technique on my GPS i860 phone, I can't see (literally) any way to display the "send to phone" caches all at once. But it's great for quickly collecting the coords for a single major cache that you want to find ! Edited March 30, 2006 by spyder8 Link to comment

+Marky
Hmm, I was kinda hoping that the cache description and the first 5 logs would be part of the trip that was downloaded. I guess this isn't quite as neat as I thought it was. Link to comment

But if you could make this a feature of the pocket q's.... Humm that would be cool to have an updated PQ sent to your phone every week.. Link to comment
+spyder8
BTW - I just went out with my i860 after doing a few "send to phone" actions. Yeah, they all appear as separate trips, BUT what I didn't realize, is that on the phone, you can do a GO TO and then LIST ALL which will show you ALL the waypoints that are currently available on the phone. SO - even though they appear in different trips, it is easy to see them all at once, and pick the one you want... Link to comment
