  1. OH one other shameless plug... the Sprint U720 and S720 broadband modem cards have GPS chips in them and you can see yourself in google earth while you drive... Very cool to Cache with...
  2. OK I work for Sprint and I have have had a treo 700p and now I am running a Moto Q. The palm has some programs that are out that I know run on it to Cache. But you need an External GPS. And the Bluetooth on the 700's is not great... I kept loosing the connection. Now I have the Q and I have found programs that say they run windows 5 but when I install them on the Q it says that the program was not designed for this device. I have demoed the PPC's and other window devices and all the others I have crashed... The Q is my favorite... Even coming from touch screen. (one less thing to Break) Palm is unstable Blackberry is hard to find Gps programs for... But TELENAV is AWESOME on it!!!! Windows... Well lets just say... if blackberry is limited Windows is even more so... I don't think I have helped... but my purpose is to try and say this... Don't by a PDA phone to Cache with. To date the best caching solution I have found on a phone is a nextel phone with Geocaching Navigator on it... That program ROCKS!!!!!
  3. OK I use and love it on my i870... Now I am using my Treo 700p alot... I use telnav on it with a bluetooth GPS puck. Any thougths on going with a Treo version?
  4. My parents will be traveling to Italy and I am wondering what would be the best GPS for turn by turn driving directions in Italy? any suggestions????
  5. has anyone in California been having a problem getting a signal lately? I have 3 units. 1 USB to my laptop. 1 Bluetooth to my Treo and my built in one in my Nextel... The only one that gets a signal is the Nextel because it is using AGPS. I was just wondering if it is a state/local/or id10t usr error...
  6. I have been caching with the GN for about a month now! Man is it an awsome product!!! I work for Sprint/Nextel so if you have any questions in that direction I can answer them too... I was out with Squints today and at one point we looked at each other and said... How many caches you think we hit today??? We don't even have a clue... But all we need to do now is log them... all I know is I was there and I found it..... Man I love that.... Also found a virtual and a hybrid today... so easy!!!
  7. Any word on if this is coming any time soon? I use trimble alot and I would love to have this option.
  8. This is why I suggest it... There are some days that I would like to meet other cachers... and others when it would be creepy and others that it just dosn't matter... but like it has been said... this would give us the option... We are in a mostly "solo" sport. this would give us the possible social aspect to every day caching and not have to wait for an event. I have met most of the cachers I know at a site that I have had close to work...
  9. "Under the Wide & Starry sky" R.L.S. GCJBAB The grave of Jean Baptiste Charbonneau the son of Sacajawea and the youngest member of the Lewis and Clark expedition. He did not die on the expedition but this is where he lies... 3 miles from the nearst route and the only cache I could find between Nevada and Idaho through Oregon...
  10. I know this is not electronic but I am trying to get an idea for using something like this in a cache... http://www.exploratoriumstore.com/miragemaker.html miragemaker
  11. I would like to suggest a new Attribute. I would like to see an attribute for a "social" cache. This would be a cache that may be "watched" by a cacher or a cache where the owner may come over and say Hi. I know a few of us have caches that we can observe from our houses or from work. If we see someone at the site we may come over and say Hi. I think that we should give some credit to this kind of cache. It could also be used for a common gathering point for cachers. I know some local cachers have a regular meeting location and if you are there at a certain time every day/month the group may be near by. I think this is by nature a game that most hunt alone. But sometimes it is fun to socialize.... why not celebrate that... I know there are event caches... but this would be different.... this should be a traditional with a small twist... What do you think?
  12. Can we have PQ's set up to send to phone? Just a cool thought... or even the bookmarked stuff?
  13. Still using Trimble Outdoors but now on my Blackberry 7520! Man the screen makes life so much easier... And the update rate is awesome!!! Finds are so quick... And better yet, when a muggle gives me that look... it really is a cell phone I am holding up to my ear.... Sometimes I even take calls while caching.
  14. I agree. A new trip for each cache is alot of trips... But if you could make this a feature of the pocket q's.... Humm that would be cool to have an updated PQ sent to your phone every week..
  15. I use my 7520 exclusivly for caching. I use Trimble Outdoors www.trimbleoutdoors.com to Cache. Sometimes I use Telenav to get to the site if I have a cross street near the cache. and I use the wap.geocaching.com site for fast loads but I will also look at the full site for pix and stuff.. So The 7520 is the ALL in one... Just need to add some monthly subscriptions. Trimble.. about $6 per month Telenav $10 permonth unlimited geocaching in one device PRICELESS
  16. I am a big fan of my Nextel Blackberry 7520 But if you have any 3 diget nextel phone with a Color display you can run Trimble Outdoors www.trimbleoutdoors.com This will even allow you to use your phone as your GPS.
  17. Got me one of these too.. Love it... trimble is at http://www.trimbleoutdoors.com i also use Spot... http://www.skylab-mobilesystems.com Oh and Telenav but not for caching... http://www.telenav.com
  18. OK Here goes... I have a 7520 and I use 2 apps 1) trimble outdoors http://www.trimbleoutdoors.com Best program... You do need to install an app on your computer and then set what street mas/topo/arial image you want to show on your Blackberry... for this service you pay something like $7 a month to use... but I think it only works on Nextel phones... 2) Spot... http://www.skylab-mobilesystems.com This is program that is a little less robust... benifit is no Desktop app needed... only a one time fee... and you have a wide chioce of maps to load... This one I use if I was not planning on Caching... this one is only for the BB7520 I do use one other program that is cool with GPS it is not for Caching but it does use the GPS and is very cool... telenav... it give you turn by turn direcitons as you drive... I love it... but enough off topic here is the website... www.telenav.com I will give the disclaimer that I do work for Nextel now sprint and so I am forced to be a little bias since I don't use other providers phones and have no need for a GPS Device... however I will put it out there that I am open for qustions if you wish to ask... Promise no Sales pitches...
  19. OK I will admit I work for Nextel... Well Sprint now... So my perspective may be a little... Well bias... But this is what I do... I use my blackberry 7520 and I have a program called Trimble Outdoors (trimbleoutdoors.com) this has a compas and tracking as well as the ablility to load maps or area pix of the cache site. I have found it very helpful It only adds about $7 a mont to my bill... But the Data package is where they get you it is $45 a month on top of the cell phone rate plan... just as a side note you can get trimble outdoors on any of the NEXTEL phones that have a color screen... Except for the i95cl that is not GPS enabled... Bottom line I like the features of my 7520... I wish the Treo 650 were GPS enabled... I my jump to that since it is Palm... I was going to wait for the next Treo but now it is slated to be Windows and I hate Microsoft.... But hey we all got to use it... if you have more questions I promise I won't sell you anything I will give you real answers... oh almost forgot... SPOT is another software for the BB7520 it is cool you can get maps while you are out and about... I run both... Trimble to me is better but if I am just in need of killing time and did not plan to cache then I look at the site and put the coords in Spot and go... Trimble has a desktop application that is required to send the maps/pix to your phone.. it is still done OTA (over the air) but you need to program your day first...
