  1. tnx - the cacher was just confused a little.... She kept telling me I HAD to place it somewhere before she could "find it", and I kept telling her about the "grab it"..... but she kept saying she had already "discovered it". Just didn't know if when you "grab it", if there might be some magic exclusion like in the "missing" world or "in the hands of the owner". She finally clicked on "grab it" and all is well.
  2. I had marked one of my old TBs as "missing".... several years ago. Recently - someone had found it..... in the mud around the last known cache location. What are the website actions to get the TB made avail and dropped back into a cache ? I think the cacher that found it was confused, and only logged a "Discovered it" vs a "Grabbed it", so it never appeared in her inventory.... for dropping into another cache. Are there any other special gotchas..... with missing, grab, etc... going from the "missing" location back to the real world ? I have now "grabbed it" so this other cacher can "grab it" from my owner hands. Was this correct, or should she have been able to "grab it" from the "missing" location ? tnx -

  4. FYI - from cust rep at Geocaching store - --- Thank you for contacting us. I have notified the team that maintains the shopping site that we need to update the images on these new "Country Orgins" TBs to show the back of the tag. Just to give you a quick description until that is updated; these new/particular TBs look like the other TBs listed on the shop site. They have the Groundspeak logo, read Travel Bug and have the Tracking Code inscribed. Please keep in mind that these do not come with copy tags like our other TBs. I hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns. Best Regards, Sara Community Relations Specialist
  5. HUH ? Since the shopping page doesn't show the OTHER side of the new "country" Orgins TB, I have no idea what it says compared to the normal TB's - old vs new - that I've bought and placed... Also - the lack of a photo for the other side doesn't let us know the language on the other side - German or English - (sigh)
  6. Wonder if anyone has purchased or seen the new Orgins TB design - like for Germany, etc? Travel Bug Orgins - new country designs Don't know what the text on the TB says, since it looks like both photos are for the same side vs one for each side.
  7. wow - interesting on the search results.... I see what happened; I only searched for the beginning letters... "lightsq" thinking that would match "lightsquared" - but it resulted in nothing found. However, using the full text of "lightsquared" yields 13 threads.. So - sorry, my error - will try and do better next time in the pre-searches for finding existing threads.
  8. I did a search on the forum for "LightSquared" and nothing popped up, so I posted the recent update vs adding to an existing thread.. tnx for the links to the other two threads on the subject.
  9. FYI - for those that haven't heard about this, go do a web search for Lightsquared - here's the latest from the FCC - GPSworld article --- >>> LightSquared Prospects; FCC Chair Wants Interference Cleared, Hits Back >>> at GPS >>> http://www.gpsworld.com/wireless/lightsquared-prospects-fcc-chair-wants-interference-cleared-hits-back-gps-11787 >>> >>> June 15, 2011 By: Janice Partyka >>> Wireless Pulse, June 2011 >>> >>> >>> LightSquared Prospects Dimming. 10. is there a way to search for that specific "attribute" on Geocaching.com ? [edit] -> ahhh.... http://www.geocaching.com/about/icons.aspx Attributes Attributes communicate what to expect at a cache location. Cache owners may identify attributes before submitting a cache listing for review. Identified attributes will appear on the right side of a cache listing page. Premium Members can use the Pocket Query feature to search for caches with particular attributes. The Wireless Beacon attribute icon -> -- ok - last edited update - BTW - You have to be a Premium Member to perform a Pocket Query, which is the only place to specify the Search attributes. Did a Pocket Query and left everything open except the "attributes" to "include" and selected the "wireless beacon" like the icon above. Results -> There are 19 "chirps" within 100 miles, and about 3 within 15 miles. Will have to go and check them out... tnx all for the pointers.
  11. hmmm - maybe the "twist" is that it's only for Premium Members - and has 5 stars -
  12. sorry - should have been crystal clear on the question This is related to performing the Search on Geocaching.com to list any caches that might have a Garmin Chirp - ie - do they display anything different in the listing, or is it just a new "thing" that doesn't have an icon or any other telltale signs listed... so there is no way to tell which caches might have a Garmin Chirp ?
  13. I've read a few threads on the Garmin Chirp since they were first avail... My basic question - how to perform a cache search to find any of these critters in my local town area ?
  14. Just received my latest batch of TB's with the totally new design.... it's been awhile. My complaint is with the redesigned COPY tag. For some of my TB's that went missing over the years, I've re-launched them using the COPY tag which was identical to the original, except for the minor inclusion of the word "COPY". With the totally new design - the COPY tag has totally different wording, as the intention is to have the orig owner keep it and not use it as a "backup". At this point - the COPY tag can't be used as a backup TB or for a re-launch TB. I wish they would not have done that... This is what the current Travel Bug dog tag looks like:
  15. tnx for the note - Not sure what the "Group: Premium Members" actually implies vs the "Premium Member" directly under the avatar... unless it gets assigned when you ARE a premium... but never gets reset when that status lapses. I wish that a Premium Cache would display some minimum info - just like a normal cache does when you are not signed in. At least display the name and some other very basic info, the Inventory, and maybe that's it - no logs, no location.... so at least you can see that it exists vs just a dumb error message.
  16. Check their first Found it log. since I'm not currently a Premium Member, I can't see anything about the cache... which is why I started this topic in the first place. (we dropped off radar when son got older - just re-started for some Boy Scout 100 year anniv stuff)
  17. I dropped this travel bug off at Planeview Travel Plaza Bug Hotel GC2C260 that's the (Premium) Geocache number - not a TB tracking number -
  18. Just encountered a premium cache - http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...&Submit6=Go One of my TB's was dropped here, and the cacher sent a note vs a "drop" since I'm guessing he (and I) are not premium members.... Now the cache of course does not show the inventory of the TB. This is the first time I've encountered this type of cache, and not really thrilled -
  19. Just wondering if there is any way to list all the coins in a given minted series to see who has them and where they all are currently located ?
  20. I don't even see the "Events Icon" or the "Free icon" mentioned on this forum in the Policy thread.... http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=116641 I wish the policy thread/statement covered all the aspects of the coin, tracking numbers, and icons - not just the billable ones...
  21. We just purchased one of our local Boy Scout geocoins. It was produced by OakCoins. http://www.oakcoins.com/gc/ The coin has a "PC" tracking number, and the generic icon is showing in my profile. http://img.geocaching.com/track/ccc12acc-c...f3d8b266013.jpg Reading the OakCoins ordering info, it appears you can get a Generic, Event, or Custom icon, but they are still showing 250min for Custom icons vs I think it's only 50min now as per Geocaching.com.. So, what is the Geocaching policy for icons ? I don't see the details & pricing listed for all types - and the "Event" is not mentioned ?
  22. It's been awhile since I've been out - son grew older... lost interest, etc - Just printed the cache sheets, and kept in paper binder. SO - will have to take a fresh look at the Geocaching website for Pocket Queries and Send to GPS topics.
  23. I have a trustly old plain Garmin 12 that I've used for years when Geocaching... Recently ran across some info about using current Garmin models that will work with downloading Geocache info, display it, record your finds, and upload back to the website.... What do you need on your computer to make all this work ? and what are the logistics involved ? --- * Geocaching: If you haven't geocached and don't ever plan on doing it then you might want to skip this part of my review. However, if you are on of the many thousands that enjoy this growing hobby (over 800,000 geocaches have been placed worldwide) this is a GPS that can take you from your driveway to the cache and back effortlessly. Like the Colorado (and similar models such as the Oregon) you can download cache information directly to the GPS. Other Garmins can download the coordinates but the Nuvi 500 (and the 550) will display the cache information, hints, logs and just about everything that you need to successfully find what you are looking for. You can also record the results of your search (found, did not find, needs repair, etc.) for later transfer to the geocaching website. I've used the Nuvi 500 to find caches and it took me right to it. I'll still use my Colorado but if I only want to take one GPS with me, it'll be the 500.
  24. weird - I just PM'd myself, and I did receive an email notification of the PM. So... I get the TB, cache watchlist, and weekly cache updates, but I still don't receive emails about updated subscription threads... like this one In fact - it appears, looking back, that I have never received any forum email notifications... Just checked my controls - email address is correct, setup for Instant Notification any ideas what else to check ?
  25. BTW - I have several subscribed threads tagged for "email notification", but haven't seen any emails from the forum.... in ages ?? But I get the weekly cache updates, and the cache/TB notifications, just nothing from the forum threads... Is the forum sending out email notifications of updates to topic threads ?
